Possibly no more new SE handsets this year? |

According to this article, SE France at a press conference in Paris today announced that all handsets due to be released this year have already been announced. So, until the end of 2008, nothing more than what's currently sitting in the coming soon section of the SE website.

(sorry, it's in French, but the main lines are quite clear, i guess)
I kinda find this hard to believe, so early in the year, why would a maker already say that they've expended all their ammo for the year? Or is it a trick to make the coming announcements more impactful?
Anyone has info on this ?

Bad translation. The article only states that no new product has been announced at the Paris press conference. Nowhere does it state that no new product will be announced for this year.

Well if it was true perhaps it will give them the rest of the year to get things right. Lol.

SE would have to be in deep deep trouble to not bring out another new phone this year....I wouldn't expect this from any major player (Motorolla included). |

Yeah, come on, we're only 3 months in! And yeah, the K860i in my opinion won't be called that. I'm quite sure we've seen the last of the old nomenclature with the Z770i and W980i. I doubt the K850i's successor is the C902 though, cause it has a smaller screen and a not as good flash. More of a fashion Cyber-Shot.

Well if SE are going to stand up to the likes of Nokia, etc. They need to keep expanding their portfolio and have more than one option in each level. For example, Nokia have the N82 and N95 and N95 8GB (soon to be the N96) all catering for the same kind of user who want the best of everything in one. This gives the user a choice, they can choose a candy-bar or a slider. So SE need to have more than one phone to give their customers more choice, and to draw in more customers. They have the K850i (or its replacement should it be released soon), which is a more dedicated camera phone with proper flash, and the slim and fashionable C902 which caters more for the crowd that want something to show off.
If SE don't keep releasing a good range of phones, they'll fall into a trap like they seemed to in 2007. Already this year we've seen SE expanding and expanding, so the outlook looks good.

I think that SE has a good iniciative of creating unique phones which cover several different user needs. However, it is obvious that they need to widen the range of choices, as users are very limited when buying a new phone.
I talk for myself, I am a SE lover since I had my first T610. Sadly enough, my next phone is likely to be a Nokia (N82). The fact is that I tried to wait long (I still have my W800i) for a phone with VGA video recording and Xenon flash to replace both my digital camera and my phone. But the G900, though is a quite astonishing device, has QVGA-video camera with no lens-cover and LED flash.
Therefore, I guess many users are in my situation, loving SE for their beautiful and neat designs with perfect user interface, but then if I need certain techology, I have to go to the dark side, and give up beauty and usability, just because I need a good camera and a full-featured phone all in one.
Hopefully SE starts to widen their range of phones and include Wifi and better cameras (no megapixels, but optics and VGA-video) in the near future. It would be a dream for me to soon replace my next N82 by a better SE. |

K850 successor will be probably named C905 (European version of SO905iCS/W62s) or C910/C912(candybar).
SE has still alot of things to show us for sure, the inbuilt radio antenna, AM radio, Clear Stereo/Bass, Photoflash, Face Detection and etc which are features usual only with SE Japan handsets(although face detection is already seen in Samsung G800). by that thing i think that Mr Dicky seems to be integrating Japan Tech with the new SEs for European market. one clear evidence is the new naming convention akin to SE JP phones. by the next we may probably see A200/Symbian phones with WVGA displays besides X1.
