Hi

I am using Mac and have got the P800. I wonder if anyone knows of a program to install applications in the P800 from mac? It is annoying to have to use a PC each time I want to install something.

Thanx! [addsig]

Hi Zand,

I badly interesting about it.
What Mac do you have? Do you have Mac OS X and Bluetooth?
For contact/calendar synchronization may be iSync should works.
For files instalation you should try Bluetooth File Exchange, you can find it in Extras folder in Applications on your Mac.
Let us know, if you find some experience.

Well. Mac users (like me) are pretty much out of luck right now...

iSync uses IrMC for sync with phones (and NOT SyncML). Since IrMC isn't supported on the P800 iSync will ignore the phone. There should - however - be a good chance that Apple will support SyncML in the final version of iSync. And that should be out - with a bit of luck - at the next MacWorld in january.

Address Book don't work either. For some reason the phone thinks it's paired with Address Book. But Address Book don't.

BUT the Bluetooth File Exchange app DOES work with the phone. So you can send files (including vCalendar and vCard - version 1.0 and 2.3 respectivly) between your Mac and the phone.

Finally all apps using serial comms should work fine with the phone. Only problem is that the sync station that comes with the phone needs a driver to work with Mac OS X. So you will either need a seperate serial cable OR use a bluetooth serial connection. I can't get Ericsson Client to work tho.

No good news. So we must hope, that final version of iSync will be with sync ml support. Apple has good relationships with SE...

Hallo everybody, and, first of all: Happy new year!
My name is Maurizio, I live in Italy, I am a Mac user since 1987, and yesterday I bought a P800.

These are the good news, and now go on with the bad ones: iSync and all the other iApps that link a Mac with a phone doesn't work with P800

Even Bluetooth Document Exchange doesn't work.

The pairing with the phone works, but no way to sync or to transfer files "manually".

On the other hand I was able to use the P800 as an analog modem using the old T39/T60 modem strings, and I will try to use it as a GPRS modem.

On the phone "alone" side, it works pretty well: mail an internet accounts are easy to setup with SE configurators, and the phone/PDA apps work flawlessly and, in comparison with my "old" T68i, in amazingly fast way.

I will try the ADSL via Bluetooth trick, and keep all the Mac/P800 users informed.

Regards,
Maurizio

... errata corrige...:

Just sync'd Contacts from P800 (manually) via Bluetooth, sending .vcf from the phone and opening it in Address Book.
Good...

First, iSync uses SyncML. Go seach information online and yo'll find it. Using google revealed several articles about this.

Second, Apple always told us they saw the mobile phone as the future organizer. It can't be a suprise that iSync is in active development and Macworld is in a couple of days. The only logical step considering the relation between SE and Apple is that the P800 will be tightly integrated with iSync and iCal. Maybe they'll write extra software for it (think iPhone) but as far as I'm concerned, I suggest people to wait for MW january, it might suprise you

Yes yes yes. Apple mentioned SyncML. And Apple is a promoting member of SyncML. But iSync does NOT use SyncML as of now. Trust me. At least not for phone sync.

Yeah. Still no mention of SyncML anywhere. I guess my own SyncML project can go on now. I just need to figure out how that Bluetooth API works and then I can get on to acturlly doing the SyncML parts =)

Once what is released? P800 or iSync? They both are. Not in the US perhaps. But they are both released.

My own project might be stalled a bit tho. I just found out yesterday that the P800 might now work with SyncML over OBEX on Bluetooth. My T68i responds correctly. But my P800 drops the connection. So a fix might be required from SE before it's possible to make a SyncML based solution.

Still. Apple should support SyncML even if the P800 don't work with it yet. They are a member of the SyncML initiative.

That's quite amusing. When iSync was first anounced, Stevie kept on going about how it used SyncML, the open standard, and all that. It was also posted all over the iSync website, but looking at it now, they've removed every mention of it.

Tsk tsk, Apple, that's not playing nice.
