Just wondering, whether we can have a video upload section here on esato!

We have a successful image upload section, would be great if we can upload videos taken by mobile cameras in 3gp or mp4 formats?

Obviously we need to take into account server/hdd space etc, but this would be very useful for many members to show frame rates of mobiles etc.

Maybe we can have a limit of file size? and image content would need to be considered i guess!

Any comments?

its a logical next step but its more than just storage as it will also consume alot more bandwidth than images do as people view the videos

true, what if the videos are uploaded on esato but the videos need to be downloaded instead of being embedded online!

Now many would say this can be done on other sites which is true but think if it was available on Esato it would make it much easier for many.

I used a new skydrive account this morning (which has free 5gb) to upload my w890 video and that seems to work quite well

...or youtube too I guess

but the problem with these sites is that they convert the video and quality is lost, and when we are keen here to see the original video quality (as we are keen to see the original still images) that would not be satisfactory

the only issue is video quality loss as Masseur says, Esato being a mobile phone forum should have its own i feel, nothing major but sufficient to upload and download mobile phone clips

i think, for now its best to just get the forum so that we can embed the videos...

bandwidth is BIG with videos. so prob not a good idea to host it on the esato servers... best thing to do is to use a file hosting client for the vids that need higher quality (i recomend hotlinkfiles )

Is this embading same as streaming. I think if it is then a lot has to be considered as for instance the bandwith just like some have said it. However I seen it in another site where you have the option to choose the quality at which you doxnloading at. The firt one has the be best picture quality. The second a little distorted, the third one has poor quality and the last one is just thirty seconds and has no sound at all. Then your download wil be based on your network provider plus in the ability of your phone.

I've always wondered why Vbulleting or IPB hasnt been used for esato?

Or even PHPBB which is free?

As far as i know esato is using an old, modified version of phpBB.

i have a question, what was the software used for previous image upload code? the new one uses GD, it'll remove EXIF and 80% compression sometimes will ruin images especially if they are for phone pics threads.
