This has sparked outrage on another site I use, so I though I'd put it to you lot.
Should the death penalty be re-introduced in the UK?
discuss!
(how do I get a poll on here?)

In what circumstances fatreg i presume you just mean in eye fo a eye cases???
i think the death penalty is out the question IMO, what i think would be a really good idea would be amputation, the options for all sorts of crimes, amputation seems like a really good way to prevent crime to.

yeah eye for an eye.. if you kill somebody, should be placed in jail or should your life be terminated?

i think if it can be proven for sure that you committed it than yes i see no problem with the death penalty, its just there has been far to many mistakes by government and the legal system for it to work properly i feel that they don't go to enough lengths to get things right, the Americans have been known to have people on death row for years and then find out it wasn't them who committed the crime.
also where do you draw the line, what if there is a car crash you survive and kill 3 people, you never meat to do it but its proven and you admit you killed them by a accident how do you determine if they should get the death penalty, you can say ok yer its just for murderers but.... you still killed someone!!!!!

depends upon the circumstances . ie taking a life in self defense or defending the lives of others in such cases would say no. However for unjustified / premeditated killings then yes execute the perpetraters to protect society. and in the case of drug dealers without a doubt they should be executed. the well being of society as a whole takes priority over any concerns over cold blooded killers and drug dealers. |

Deffo should.
Only for murders and shizz though. But I think you shouldn't be punished AT ALL for killing someone while defending yourself. But for other attacks which lead to death, so like murders, terrorism etc., the death penalty should be brought back in.
EDIT: All those terrorists wanted to die anyway... uhhm.. no praying before you're killed then.

ok then if i may, what about a age limit, the whole thing With Gary Newlove, i would give them the death penalty if you notice they spend more time in prison because of there age,
what about people that are asylum seekers what happens there do the get the death penalty or do we send them packing home, its a very good subject to talk about but....
the death penalty wouldn't work in this country now we as a nation let people get away with anything and everything,

No, never, because despite the fact that SOME people MIGHT deserve such, innocent people are bound to get hanged/electrocuted/gassed in error.

This is not a topic that is just black or white, it's mostly all gray, if you start saying lets kill certain criminals, where do you draw the line?.

I believe there should be automatic custodial sentences for crimes against THE PERSON, no matter WHAT age, the prisons are chock full of motorists, shoplifters, fraudsters, leaving the thugs, vandals and perverts to walk our streets.
