( first topic )

Hi there, first of all, i am Portuguese so I cant really write English very well.

So, I have these models in mind, and I just cant choose anyone of them.

I want a Camera phone. A cellphone with a good camera, and mp3 player.
3G and Radio are interesting too.

The ones that I like the most are the K550 and the V640.
Between these two, the one that is better for me is the V640 I think.

K550 has a great camera and is BEAUTIFULL, but, it doesnt have 3G and it isnt of vodafone. I would like a cellphone from vodafone because all my friends and family are members of vodafone.

The prices here in Portugal are the following:

V630 90€
V640 130€
K550 140€
K750 150€

I hope I obeyed the rules in this forum.. im a newbie around here...

out of that lot, i would say that the k750 has the best camera and audio/music quality.

i cannot understand why it is still the most expensive as its been out nearly 2/3 years

Hey welcome to Esato!

Your english seems very good mate!

I would say that of those phones the K750i has the best camera, but it is also the oldest and it does not have 3G. The K550i is similar to that, but apparently the camera isn't quite as good. If you really want 3G, then that rules those two out.

I had a V630i, which was a perfectly fine phone, but the camera is not so great for a 2MP, but I did win the Esato camera shootout in January with the V630i's camera! So it is not bad! I would guess the V640i would have the same camera as the V630i. But the V640i has the newest Sony Ericsson software platform, so if you bought this, I don't think you'd want an upgrade as soon as with the other models. I think it looks the best too. I like the black.

So out of those phones, I personally would take the V640i. It is the newest and best looking (in my opinion) and it has a good enough camera. But if you want the best possible 2MP camera, I think you will have to sacrifice 3G.

I'd go for the V640 too.

K750 UI is getting pretty old now and no 3G just rules it out IMO.
Don't really know much about the K550.
Of the K610/V630 twins I'd recommend the V630 (no surprises there ) because its better looking and better value with 256 MB M2 card and plug-in stereo speakers included in the box. My views on the under-rated non-A/F 2.0 Mp camera are well documented in other threads...
The V640 is a V630 + radio + HSDPA + new software platform + new styling - surely you can't go wrong!

yap, I am going for V640. it has radio and 3.5G...
It's the newest too.

Just two more questions...

When the cellphone is in the silence mode, does it makes a sound when I take a photo?

Do you know where I can find photos taken by a V640/K630?

Thanks for the help!

Yes thats right, on any Vodafone mobile, you can not turn camera sound off. It's due to some kind of agreement or restrictions in some countries. You will find that problem on any Vodafone Sony Ericsson mobile I believe.

BUT: There is the option to change the sound, and one of the sounds you can change it to is a simple clicking sound which is not very loud and not very intrusive. It does not sound like a phone or a camera, so it may suit some situations where no camera sound is wanted.

But what happens if I change the firmware to an K630? Is the same thing has the V640, but it isnt vodafone branded.

I dont want to ruin the warranty tough...

Not be able to turn off the sound is really bad... I have a cellphone with this problem, and believe in me... it is horrible.

Anyway, another question, What is the main difference between K series and the Walkman series? Is it the sound quality? I will abandon my mp3 player and use my new sony ericsson, will I notice some changes in quality? and is the new software platform in the V640 upgrade the sound quality?

Thanks eveybody!!

You can change it to K630i firmware, yes, and that probably will give you the option to turn off the camera sound. But it will void your warranty, so you may have to decide whether it's worth it. The camera sound that I mentioned earlier should help anyway.

Walkman players generally do have better sound quality than non-walkman phones, but an MP3 player will have better sound quality than any phone (generally). So if you give up on your MP3 player for your phone, you will notice a decrease in sound quality. I believe the sound is slightly better in the new software than in older phones, but I'm not sure.
