today I read mobile-review.com and gsmarena.com and both say the w890i walkman phone speaker ARE POOR.

Impressions
Despite having 40-chord polyphony onboard, the W890i breaks no new grounds in the way MP3 tunes sound, as compared to other Sony Ericsson branded devices. The overall volume of this phone is pretty average, although occasionally you might miss calls while on a busy street. Honestly, the W890i just doesnt deliver in terms of volume level at times, but we didnt expect it even to have this in the first place. Playing many mp3 tracks full-out, the loudspeaker starts creaking and crackling a bit, which is a tradeoff for the W890i being a svelte device. The vibrating alert is below average strength-wise, meaning that you might not feel it when the phone is in your outerwear. Thankfully, we never experienced any trouble with the handsets reception quality.
The W890i has a lot of things going for it updated platform, HSDPA and EDGE connectivity, lightning fast interface and speedy3D applications. More importantly, not only does it trump its predecessor on these fronts, it also holds the upper hand against other A200-powered solutions that debuted earlier.
The handset is set to hit the shelves early in May at 400 Euro. Judging from the sales of the Sony Ericsson W880i, Nokia 6500 Classic, this price tag is quite adequate, so consumers will happily go for it. You can consider it as the good old W880i with its letdowns addressed, or as the W880is successor, or a rival to the Nokia 6500. Regardless of what side you take, the W890i is a decent phone that doesnt disappoint on all fronts. It will do a great job as a secondary handset, especially if you need no bells and whistles, but rather a nice looking and well-designed gadget.

All the latest Sony Ericsson phones we've tested offer very good voice quality for both parties and W890 is no exception. The HSDPA enabled quad-band handset offers good signal reception but, surprisingly, ringing is neither loud nor balanced enough. The loudspeaker seems to do poorly at trebles and basses, too. The results of the loudspeaker test differ a bit from our subjective impression. The test ranked the W890 within the "Very Good" margin.
Here is how the W890 ranks along some of the other handsets we've measured in our new speakerphone loudness test. More info on our test here.
Speakerphone test Voice, dB Pink noise/ Music, dB Ringing phone, dB Overal score
Sony Ericsson W890 69.6 78.2 72.7 Very good
Sony Ericsson W910 77.5 70.7 82.7 Excellent
Sony Ericsson K850 71.0 75.7 75.7 Very good
LG KU990 Viewty 72.0 68.8 77.8 Good
Samsung E250 71.9 64.7 69.8 Average
Qtek 8500 65.7 65.7 66.2 Bellow average
really i was going to buy it but now i am not because of its low speaker performance. dont be fooled by the design its the specification that count . I Have a Question why call it a walkman when the simplest thing " THE LOUD SPEAKER" are very poor ? Sony ericsson your killing the walkman phone meaning thats if they now what "walkman phone stands".

@ xellar, I agree, walkman used to mean a personal music system (ie. headphones), nothing worse than sound polution from other peoples music. |

@DEAF: Dude you've already stated this in several places across Esato! What's the reason for the re-posting of it? I count this as the 3rd time you've wrote something along these lines in the last few hours!

From the review posted they say that the speaker is rubbish that it was expected to be. The review seems positive except from the title of this thread.
DEAF only seems to make posts that are anti SE.

I just noticed that.
The review says it does poorly with trebles and basses but overall GSM ranked the handset as very good and said overall the speaker test found it very good.
You'll never get loudness out of any phone that is as thin as a CD case, unless some new ground-breaking tech appears that sorts the issue out.

I would appreciate if speakers in phones would be forbidden to be used except for ringtones, but never for MP3 etc. I hate all these kiddies forcing me to listen to their rubbish Rapper-"music" in the public. I have no problem if they use their headphones for that. But music taste is a personal thing - so keep it that way until all around ask you to do otherwise.
This is a Walkman phone! As with the very first Walkman back in the 80s it's intended to be used with headphones. Everything else is like watching a HD BluRay movie on a black-and-white 5-inch TV-Set! |

if you were going to buy a phone lets say any phone wouldn't have to have a high volume for your ringtone .i dont want to hold a phone with a low speaker performance and miss my call. |

^ Understandable but of all the phones tested above, the W890i actually has the highest db ringing phone rating.
So of all the phones tested you chose to complain about the phone with the best ringing phone rating in the gsm arena test?
I don't understand, sorry.

Agree with Goldenface, plus the fact that W890 is a realy thinn phone puts it at a disadvantage.
