Will bluetooth interfere with aircraft systems? |

I know you have to have your cell phone turned on in aircraft mode when in a plane (phone turns off gms module) because it could interfere with aircraft systems and communication. But say I find out I'm sitting next to another esato maniac and want to exchange some data with him over bluetooth? Would this in any way interfere with the plane's systems and maybe even cause it to ahem-CRASH?

Try it next time you fly but let us know what date it is so that we can all watch the news for any planes falling out of the sky For what it's worth I've used my "notebook" on the plane which uses bluetooth for its keyboard and mouse and we arrived with no problems after a 4hr flight

Well..
Bluetooth only has a range of ~10m
And even if you within 10meters of the cockpit it doubt it'd make the plane crash:p |

Flight mode disables ALL radios, Bluetooth included. Unless I'm mistaken. |

Be brave. Power on the phone normal. What's the worst that could happen?

Being condemned as a mass murderer for killing everyone onboard?

well, so far it hasnt been confirmed wether cell phones interfere with the plane'scommunication systems or not, but its likely to do. Bluetooth or anything else, may interfere. So to be on the safer side, dont switch it on, especially during the critical times of flight,i.e- take off and landing.
Also, u can turn on bluetooth while using flight mode in s60, dont know abt se(a100 u cant).

Sure thing. Just like playing your portable CD Player (make it portable DVD player now-a-days) on a plane will bring it down... 10 years ago I was flying on Lufthansa and I was notified by the flight attendants that I MAY NOT Play my CD Player while on board of the plane! That was perhaps the most ludicrous rule I've ever seen.
Like I've said - on my computer I CANNOT disable the BT because I'd loose control since BOTH my mouse AND keyboard only function over BT. If it was such an issue I'm positive that the maker would have posted on it - DO NOT TRY TO USE IN FLIGHT... Not to mention they've already made planes with Wifi on board which has MUCH higher power output than either BT or your cellphone...

Well, I used bluetooth on a recent flight from UK to USA and back so I could use my bluetooth headphones on my K810i (in flight mode of course).
They asked that all electronic devices were swicthed off during take-off and landing. Apart from that I had it switched on all the time.

Did you happen to land in a different continent than planned though?
The 777 that came down at Heathrow recently is being suspected as an interference problem.
You just need to put your phone next to some speakers occasionally to hear interference. If that’s on a data cable you could have some major problems.
I think you would have to be in a very specific place on the aircraft to do some serious damage. The problem is no one has ever tested it. Also one phone/computer transmitting might not cause a problem but 500 on a 380 might.
What ever you do make sure there off at take off and landing. At 40,000 feet there’s a better chance of fixing the problems before it becomes disastrous.

@ i-am-andrew Bluetooth doesn't work in flight mode, all radio signals are turned off by it. I guess you had you phone on all flight, not a very good idea since it is illegal and you can be arrested for it. |

In P990 (I assume the same with P1) BT is disabled in flight mode.
However, I remember reading that the EU was considering lifting the ban on the use of BT devices in airplanes.
P990i: A mistake, a curse and a disgrace So I lowered my expectations and settled for a P1i. I couldn't keep my expectations so low for a long time so now I have an HTC Touch HD |
