k770 vs k810i - Camera quality |
Karvel Joined: Feb 10, 2008 Posts: 6 PM |
Is there any "consensus" as to which provides the better quality images? I read that the k770 lacks an image stabiliser which results in more noise BUT the pictures show much more sharpness, image processing better on the k770 etc.? But looking at the specs it seems the k810i has the bigger sensor and has a Xeon flash.. I'm rather confused :/ I was reading in the 'post images from your k770' thread that a number of people were remarking at how sharp the images were compared to their k800/k810.

last but not least.. it's really a superb macro in room lighting with K770. no flash.

Assume K800 cam is the same with K810.

So how much really does the lack of an image stabiliser/lack of Xeon flash affect the k770? I presume shooting with the k770 requires REALLY steady hands?

the k770i has a major advantage in the camdriver the awful whitebalance is turned off,
this is k800i and modded driver the whitebalance is turned off

All I can say.. the grainy pics indeed make the pics look sharper. Modded K800 cam can't even produce pics as sharp as K770's. IMHO.
The lack of an image stabiliser does quite a lot actually in night pics (but not in day pics). It requires steady hands. But as long as you lower the exposure compensation, I think it less requires steady hands.
Xenon flash makes everthing easy in taking night pics. So the lack of Xenon flash results the other way.
I think if you take a lot of macro/day pics, choose K770. Otherwise, choose K800/K810.

k770 lacks purple fringing or at least it's not that visible. I am really surprised by the quality of those k770 shots, because the camera sensor i smaller. |

@Karvel
I have the same doubts as you, I can't decide if I should sell my K800i and replace it with K770i.
Here is a link comparing K810i with K770i

image stabilizer in camphones is just software based. it won't help really. you can ignore it. |

The colors might be better with the modded driver K800, but you can't turn off that awful noise reduction algorithm that smears fine details out of existence. This is one of the biggest advantages of the K770/T650.
K770 on left, K800 on right. |

Where did you find phone specs that included sensor size?
I would assume that all SE 3 MP camera phones use the same Sony sensor (IMX018?) while the actual difference lie in the driver and perhaps lens.

the k800i uses a sony sensor, the k770 uses a Samsung 1200-0112 sensor,
thats not noise reduction that does that to the k800i pics it's a combination of compression and the dam bilinear filter which is on all the time even when zoom isn't being used. |

@number1
how bilinear filter will work when there is no zoom? and why it's on all the time?
and i think in the above pic(K800), sharpness is a bit high. and you know this isn't related to compression. |

i dunno why but it is on all the time in the k800i see the affect
http://wiki.beyondunreal.com/wiki/Bilinear_Filtering
now look at the k800i pics and compear them, you can clearly see it's the bilnear filter with a combination of the k800i's awful whitebalance.
see here some1 compared the oringal camdriver of the k800i with the whitebalance on, then my k800i camdriver with the whitebalance off
