Just wondering if the p800 is more of a sony product or ericsson. A lot of websites just call it sony p800 like the ericsson t68i. I reckon its more sony cos in terms of it design, it looks like a large pastel blue z7 (with its jog dial), got no yes no buttons, and has a menu that looks like z7's (with billiard balls). It has bluetooth and so on so it uses a lot of ericsson technology. What do you guys think? Sony or Ericsson? |

This thread is totally pointless! the "Sony Ericsson" P800 was designed, manufactured and sold by Sony Ericsson!
The company is called Sony Ericsson! its a new company! with new designs! not a bit of sony and a bit of ericsson stuck together to make a product? the designers will have been told to design some completely new products! like the p800, t600, t300 and t100?
so its not more Sony or more Ericsson, its 110% SONY ERICSSON!

The t 600 is a t66 with a new cover, same size, same features, same button layout.

I can PROMISE it is developed by Ericsson from the beginning!
I conducted a usability test two years agoo at Ericsson, with a "quite" similar product.....
Just my two cents...

I think it is more Ericsson then Sony, or it even may be Ericsson only.
Take a look at this Commercial. It mentions nothing about Sony, or Sony Ericsson, just Ericsson.

Hope this clears things.

This is what I think. Largely or entirely based on prototype by Ericsson. Production-wise I think it is a hybrid.
Ericsson has had the symbian platform phone/thing since a while back. The flip-idea is directly inherited from R380. UIQ was previously a unit within Ericsson. In addition it uses Ericsson accessories. Radio technology is licensed from Ericsson.
HOWEVER, it has memory stick, button layout is rearranged, I understand the menu system when closed is similiar to old Sony, jogdial, earpieces and the likes are most probably delivered by Sony, and last but not least - it is manufactured in Sony's factories.
It is simply a hybrid. |

It probably started out on the drawing board of an Ericsson designer's desk as a continuation of the R380. I think you can find most of the traits of the P800 as an enhancement over the R380: the keyboard flip, Symbian, etc. When they merged, Sony came and enhanced it with the Jog dial, Memory Stick Duo, and probably screen and multimedia technology.
It is a true product of the merger, yes, but believe it was conceived by Ericsson before the merger. |

I believe this was morphed into the P800 as well. |
