This is my first post in this excellent, entertaining and informative forum.

Pleasant stuff out of the way... I need some advice, or possibly reassurance!

I have owned the T68 for a little over a week and a half; and I am really in two minds whether this is the worst purchase I have ever made, or a brilliant phone!
Features, looks and the colour thing is wonderful and I have never owned a phone more pleasing to the eye.

My problems....I am with UK Vodaphone (for those who do not know this company, probably the biggest in the UK and offering the largest coverage) and I struggle to get a signal at home and at work. Both locations are close to the centre of the same large town, where Network coverage (with any Network) is not usually a problem.

On the Office desk and at home, I constantly have to move the 68 around the desk to keep the dreaded "SOS calls only" away. It is not the Network because work colleagues have their Siemens phones connected to the same Network and their signal meter is almost on full.

As soon as I take the phone off charge, despite its regular 12-14hr charges (discharges), the power drops to 3/4, straight away, on the traditional battery indicator (bottom right of screen). I actually believe that this power drop is because the 68 is trying very hard to get a signal and the digital meter fluctuates in massive chunks( up to 100hrs standby)from one hour to the next, due probably to this "no signal" problem.

Guys, any suggestions? Anybody heard of antenna/reception problems with the T68.

I have mailed Ericsson support tonight with the extent of my problems but would appreciate some input before getting into dialogue with Ericsson.

Thanks in advance.....

Hey Dood, I work at Luton airport and live in Watford so I'm not that far away and I've had no trouble with reception, I would say that the reception seems to be exactly the same as my last phone which was a Siemens S35i. What was your last phone and how did the service coverage compare? I also have a Siemens ME45 which seems to have really good reception, maybe Siemens just have it a little more sorted than Ericsson. I think you're right about the battery life being driven by the phone always hunting for a signal, I dunno but you may have a proble with the phone. I really like the T68 but the lack of automatic punctuaton when writing a text bugs me a bit. I think you've made a good choice in phone but better get it checked out. hope this helps, it's just my opinion. And yeah this is a great forum, I've learned heaps about the T68 and mobiles in general, there are some pretty clued up people playing around here, take it easy

Last one was a 6210 on Orange. I could be sitting on the 6210, on the sofa and still get a signal.

I cant even have this one in my shirt top pocket.

I live and work in Watford as well and I have no problems with reception at all.

I have heard about the problem with the battery discharging, When you got your phone did you charge it propably.

May have to take the phone to a service centre. See what they say!!

I've had problems with the service level fluctuation. I understand that this can affceted by three factors:
1) The internal antenna -- it might look nicer, but it can never work as well.
2) A poor signal to noise ratio in the handset's DSP. Given the cost of this phone, I'd be surprised if Ericsson had used a cheap pre-pay type DSP. But hey, they've got other hardware problems...like that terrible microphone sensitivity. btw: Siemens phones have traditionally performed very well in areas of low signal strength.
3) High co-channel interference from other users in distant cells -- a possible but unlikey cause.

Right now, you're still within your 14 day money back guarentee. If you've got an early hardware version then I'd be tempted to take your phone back and either get a new one, or get a more recent replacement. I got my phone as an upgrade (and somehow get a full 30 day guarentee period) and because no-one can hear what I say when I'm anywhere slightly noisy, Voda Connect has said that they'll send me a new one...a new hardware version with R2B (woo!) when they receive their delivery at end Feb.

Worth a shot!
