Whenever I try to insert text I get this error:

"Could not complete your request because something prevented the text engine from being initialized"

And on the font drop down box, it usually has a preview of what the font looks like, but it doesnt. Do I maybe need to re-install the fonts or something?

do you run photoshop emulated? like with wine on linux?
i recall that exact issue with a emulator.
besides ... what amount of ram do you have
