K850i - default pressure on LCD causing "dark spot" |
Koops Joined: Jan 06, 2006 Posts: 14 PM |
Thread title pretty much says it all. But im getting a dark spot on my screen when its not being touched. Its like by default the plastic cover is too close to this one single point.
I've just started using this phone to browser the net and this is when the issue is most visible (white background).
What is happening is it appears that the clear part of the screen plastic is pressing onto the LCD itself.
If I press anywhere on the screen it is this single one point where you get the LCD like ripples.
I have also noticed on the K850I that the entire screen surface is "bouncy". That is, if you press any of the corners the screen itself will dip then bounce back. Perhaps this has to do with the 3 touch sensitive buttons at the bottom?
I never had a bouncy screen on my K750i.
Has anyone else got this issue? I'll post a pic (from the K750) when I get a chance.

hmm ok so pushing on say the top right hand corner doesn't move in "at all"?
On mine the screen will drop around maybe 1/3-1/2mm into the main body of the phone. You have to be VERY close to the phone to see it. |

Ok, I see it. Like 0.2 mm or so. I haven't open it yet but how I see it could be also some damping zone. Say your phone drops on the ground, bounces few times (like mine did) if screen is rigidly linked to the frame it could result in screen crack. As someone mentioned before, LCD and plastic cover are in one piece.
Could be cause of the touchkeys, as you said.
Just an idea..
EDIT: but no dark spot tho...

Ok got the pics. Its very hard to take pictures of this for me though.
Anyway ... click small pic for large version
This one shows the "pressed" behaviour. The default unpressed is like the blue "spot" to the left of the dark one. Its painful to look at when viewing rss feeds with a white background.
This pic (trys) to show the "bounce" of the screen. Left is show the edge clearly visible. The right pic shows the screen recessed back into the body of the phone.

spoke to the retailer and they said the following :

Wouldn't this be a manufacturing error though? ie. the outer screen shouldn't touch the internal lcd panel surely? |

This is a manufacturer fault, so it has to be replaced by your seller. What a load of c**p that guy told you.

It gets even better *sigh*
"as it is outside effort make the mark.
i am afraid you accidently hard press the screen and cause damage to the
phone."
I knew I should have stuck to a local retailer and not gotten it from a hk guy ( http://www.t-dimension.com/ )
and lastly ...
"but i asked Sony ericsson, they said it is not manufacturer error and it is
not covered by warranty."
ripped off So much for a good warranty on a $500+ phone.

I've actually found that the outer housing presses down on the screen itself on the outsides. This puts undue pressure on the screen causing a torquing effect over the surface of the lcd thus causing the spots.
I'll order a new housing and see if it still happens. |
