P1i ActiveSync With Exchange - a couple of questions |
batfastad Joined: Jan 09, 2008 Posts: 11 PM |
Hi everyone
I got my P1i up and running with our Exchange Server with ActiveSync in no time the other day.
I have some questions:
1) How do I stop the certificate message from popping up every time I try and 'Get & Send'?
Our Exchange Server uses a self-signed certificate, so every time I try and Sync, I get a message asking me to confirm the certificate.
Is there any way I can install the certificate into the P1i's trusted store or anything?
So that I don't get this message every time. It gets quite annoying having to accept the message every time I want it to sync.
On a Windows Mobile device it's as simple as opening the .cer file from within the File Manager.
2) Is there a way to sync the Sent / Drafts folders with those on our server?
I can only get ActiveSync to do the Inbox
And the only messages that appear in the 'Sent Items' on my P1i are ones that I've sent from the P1i
3) Is there a way to have peak/off-peak sync schedules with the P1i?
It seems I have to edit the timings manually whenever I want to change this.
I had a device running Windows Mobile before which would let me set this up, so overnight I can set it to not sync, and when I'm in the office during the day it wouldn't sync. And I could set it so that it only syncs on weekday evenings for example.
Is there a way to do that with this device?
4) One thing I miss from the Windows Mobile version is the ability to mark selected messages for download.
If I have ActiveSync set to just download headers, it was cool to just delete the rubbish then just download all the rest of the message bodies in one go.
With ActiveSync on the P1i if you have it set to just download the headers, you need to go into each message and then download it each time.
Just not quite as slick.
It all works though!
One suggestion I have for the developers, is on the first sync it removes all your contacts and tries to sync them with the server.
It would be nice to stop that behaviour or give you the option on the first sync, as all I want to be sync'ing is my mail. Not calendar/contacts.
So I had to re-import all my phone contacts again after the initial sync, and turn off Contact/Calendar synchronisation.
You can only turn off Contact/Calendar sync once it's done the initial synchronisation
The version of ActiveSync on my P1i is v2.015 (342)
Is there any way to get updates to this?
Will DataViz be adding new features? Or will it just be a new release for a new device?
Thanks

Good questions ... I'd like to know as well.
Is there any alternative to Dataviz for Exchange on the P1i ? |

1) Should be. If you can get hold of the issuing certificate in binary DER. (I thought you couldn't get that on an exchange server, without paying MS, by the way..?)
2) Apparently not. The Roadsync client doesn't do that on any of the versions, WM, S60, UIQ3.
3) No again. And that is there on the other versions. I don't know, maybe the scheduler- api isn't or wasn't that well documented on UIQ?
Other than that - on 2 - 4 (or at least 3 and 4), those seem like very sensible requests for improvements on the existing software (that could reasonably be expected to be there from the beginning). So if you have the time it would be great if you filed a report to SE support (all the support requests need to go through there, and not directly to Dataviz), and maybe also made a new entry in the wiki (link in sig. Make a new sub- header in the features/bugs, maybe?).
The p1 Whiki - report your bugs, and add feature requests here. "Brothers and Sisters, believe! Believe in the salvation of Demand Paging, 'eah!" |

I've tried downloading the certificate as binary DER .cer file, then try viewing it in the P1i's File Mangler but it doesn't seem to work
I still get prompted to accept the certificate every time.
Once you've installed the certificate into Windows trusted certificate store in IE, you can then export it into any format you need. Worked straight away in Windows Mobile 5 and Windows Mobile 6 devices.
I'll keep trying to find the answer to this, as it renders the automatic ActiveSync completely useless, having to tap the screen every time it needs to sync.
Thanks

Hi,
I know this topic might be outdated a bit, however I've found it in Google (while searching for information of similar problem with mine P1i) and I think I have a solution for:
1) How do I stop the certificate message from popping up every time I try and 'Get & Send'?
In our company we use Win SBS 2003 (which sucks, btw.). If you'd like to sync to Exchange automagically without taping your screen every time (if self-signed certificates doesn't work), just follow these simple steps:
1. Open DataViz ActiveSync
2. Go to More > Settings > Adv
3. UNCHECK "USE SSL".
Done
HTWH.

Have you guys managed to get the active sync installed? When i try to install the sis file i keep getting an error telling me that i already have one push email set up on the phone and thus am unable to install active sync.
Anyone got any idea how to overcome this? |

I have Active Sync already installed on my P1i - I didn't need to made a clear install manually.
Try to upgrade/reinstall phone's firmware (using SEUS), this should solve the thing (remember firstly to back up all your contacts, calendar and other settings, which will be erased while upgrading). |

Hi guys
Yeah ActiveSync was already installed on my phone. Then I de-branded it and upgraded it with SEUS
I've been using ActiveSync loads actually, but I never solved the SSL certificate issue.
I keep it using SSL, but just tend to sync manually anyway |

you probably have Blackberry preinstalled on your device, you need to uninstall it first... |

Ben, switching off SSL causes ActiveSync doesn't display cert error any more, and it synchronizes flawlessly, with Push enabled (I needed to instal SP2 on my Exchange server). |

Yeah I thought about doing that a while back but I still prefer to sync over SSL and confirm each time.
It's stupid that so many devices fail to recognise a self-signed SSL cert |
