Buy an N82 and sell for an iPhone - possible? |

I am considering the following and wondered if anyone else had done something similar. I would like an iPhone but would rather not pay the £269.
Is it therefore possible to sign up to a 18 month O2 contract with a heavily subsidised phone like the N82, sell the N82 *cough* ebay *cough* and buy a iPhone with the proceeds? Then stick the O2 sim from the N82 into the iPhone and Bob's your uncle?
Or will it not work?

I wouldnt think that would play nice to be totally honest. I understand you're thinking there, but I imagine the iPhone tariffs are locked just to users on that device, so you'd need to call up O2 and tell them you want to switch to an iPhone tariff. Your iPhone may still work, with your O2 SIM though, but who knows whether the likes of visual voicemail will work, or if it's worth having an iPhone without a decent data plan to back it up? |

The iphone tariff is just a standard O2 tariff with the data bolt on though. Therefore you could get the N82 for free on a £30 per month tariff (18 month contract) and add the unlimited data browsing for £7.50 a month.
Works out £2.50 a month cheaper than the iPhone contract but when you consider you are effectively getting the iPhone for next to nothing...
Would be interested to speak to anyone who has tried it though. I'd be surprised if it didn't work. After all, they aren't going to be making different SIM cards just for the iPhone surely? |

Nah it won't work unless you use a hacked iphone at which point you wonder why bother with the contract? You can buy a jailbroken iphone from me but you would have to use it on the o2 network, just no need for the contract?

the internet using edge and visual voicemail will not work, i know people who have tried a non o2 iphone sim in the iphone and it works but the internet on edge and visual voicemail did not work, plus also know people whose non iphone o2 sim completely stopped working too in the iphone. |
