So what is and isn't legal? Is it legal to post link to illegal stuff such as game and movie downloads aslong as they are hosted an another server?

to keep it simple, you should not post links, or requests link to, anything that is copyright and which is not licenced by the copyright holder to be distributed freely

are these not supposed to be 'back-ups' eg your aloud to have the copied file on ur pc as long as you own the original?

if you own the game then surely you can make your own backup and you don't need links to copy them.
people are free to use google or whatever to find what they want and sorry, but as we all know, "back-ups" is just an excuse to share copyright material freely and we don't want that here.
