Don't agree with that, sorry.

If Mods feel a post or a topic is not acceptable, they should remove it.

How about members refrain from posting crap so it never needs deleting.

I dont intentionally post crap, and if its too much work to report to the user, then get more mods. Users should be informed, its how it works in all forums i visit. I recently posted something in the regional forums which got deleted for no reason, and i wasnt informed, which i used to every time previously.

I'm a mod over on SE-NSE, and i have to admit I don't always inform a member when I delete a post, or even a topic. It depends on the circumstances, if it's a double post or a duplicate thread I don't bother, if the duplicate thread is an obvious spam attempt to try to get a quicker reply I'd PM them, also I would if it was something more serious like swearing or something like that.

I also tend to to inform members if I delete any 'crap' posts, e.g. if the thread originator asks me to clear up some replies that say just 'I agree' or 'lol' in a technical thread.

It would make modding quite a job if I had to PM every single person whose thread/post I deleted for any reason, as often I am doing other things, like a quick check whilst at work (I know, naughty!) or on my mobile whilst out and about and it's not practicable with limited time constraints.

Agreed, it would be time-consuming to engage in a PM discussion prior or subsequent to a deletion. We also ought to consider that a moderator is expected to exercise his discretion, and as such one ought to accept the situation with good grace when a post has been deleted. I'm positive that the moderators here would hardly delete a post or thread merely for the sake of frivolity.
I'm not superstitious, merely mildly stitious.

I wasnt aware that mods didnt inform people when their posts have been deleted as I cant recall having one deleted. I have had threads locked but have always been informed when that happens.

i've always been informed when a thread/post is deleted. of course, after it's done.

now, what post/thread was deletedof you? if you knew that it was something inacceptable for this forum, you should know that it was gonna be deleted.

I always inform people when their posts are deleted unless its blindingly obvious why its been removed.

@QVGA, as you have raised this thread I can confirm that I have recently removed 2 posts of yours which were both totally innapropriate.

One was in the murdered bhutto thread the other day which is unrepeatable here but caused some outrage from a couple of other members who saw it before I did.
the second was in the thread where a member wanted phone numbers of celebrities where you made a personal comment against that member.

Perhaps some members think this kind of posting is ok and so are surprised when their post is removed, so in future I will make sure I always send a PM regardless of whether I think it is obvious or not

I hope that clarifies this for you
