Its my brothers birthday soon and he needs a new phone and he said he likes the K800i. My question is as its been out for a while now is it stable and reliable with later firmware as he used to have a K750i and that was reliable. Thanks in advance.

The early ones did have a problem where they would turn on but that was fixed in later revisions of the phone software.

I've had mine for over a year now & can't fault it in any way.
Build quality is very good, with all keys including the joystick still very responsive/firm/not loose etc even after this long.
The camera cover does have a tendency to slide open in your pocket but on the whole its nothing to worry about really.
General everyday use is very easy with call handling & texting simple to navigate and very intuitive (the predictive text & way the phone 'remembers' your most frequently texted words, then offers them for use is excellent)
Other good points i like are as a 'camera phone' my imac automatically reads the phone when connected via usb as a 'camera' and such opens up iphoto and downloads all photos exactly as if a regular digital camera/memory stick had been connected.
Phone charges via usb cable (which i have found to be a god send at times)
anyway before i find myself rambling again, Yes its a very good, reliable phone that i reckon still holds it own despite newer models available. |

since when CID is related to peeling off keypads?
k800's reliabilty? 6/10.

I guess he means K800's of that time period, not necessrily the cid49 itself.
However my sis has a cid49 and it is reliable and no keypad problems at all.
My own cid51 (updated to cid52) is rock solid and super reliable. I haven't had a single issue with it at all.

Well, I've had my K800 for nearly a year. In that time it has been rock solid when it comes to reliability. Build quality is definitely a mile above that of K750/W800. In the early days of my K800 ownership I did complain about the sound quality and photo quality. However, the sound can easily be fixed by updating the sound drivers and if you're not into loud sound then the sound is perfecty good with the original drivers. As for the camera - it does suffer some anti-aliasing issues. But, having seen a wide range of K850 photos I have to say the K800 performs very well indeed - in fact it is better in my opinin. I still think the K750/W800 take better photo's in full daylight. But, the K800 makes up for that by taking better shots at night or under poor lighting. I honestly think you'll be more satisfied with the photos from a K800 than a K850 which sufers from too much noise and graininess. My Joystick has never played up. The only annoying thing is the camera cover opening in your pocket. But, if you use a phone case or pouch on a belt clip it isn't an issue. Just don't use one of those crystal cases - they are a waste of time and will only damage the phone if they don't crack and fall apart 1st. The other good thing about the K800 is that the screen is very well sealed from dust. My W800 collected a fair amount of dust under the screen yet my K800 has not shown one spec of dust.

Yes, the k800 is one of the best phones SE has ever released. I agree with all the above. But if you want a more modern and cool one, without the problem of the easily-opening cover buy a K810! The best so far! Much better than the k850, which for the moment is like being in an experimental stage!;) |

I once heard that the K800i does have one thing which is only minor. Its the earpiece when someone talks quite loud it tends to distort quite badly. Anyone else noticed this.
