Is there any playlist creator for P1i? |
chlee Joined: Dec 30, 2007 Posts: 188 PM |
Urgent! I already used OneClickPlay, the problem is that the m3u lists generated by OCP cannot be outside its folder, meaning, playing songs from more than one folder.
I used WMP and Winamp, dosen't work! WTH, I am now updating my P1i via SEUS, hopefully the update can allow P1i to read Winamp m3u.
Argh...

Updating 1000 songs takes 15min. And the moment you add or remove 1 song you need to update again for 15mins.
There is no way to sync realtime like Ipod or whatever. May I know how you guys sync the music in your P1i with its default player?
Nuts.

Dammit, I just updated my p1i and the screen says 100% but I heck care unplugged the cable after 20 mins stucked at 100%. Well work fine, now the bloody music player can play OnceClickPlay m3u list from parent folder but cannot play the weird Winamp playlist with EXT#INFO bla bla blah.
Hell OneClickPlay rules, GOD!

hi,
I sometimes have difficulties of preparing a playlist. For exemple I want to choose songs from their folder seeing the file name. Is this possible with P1? What is OneClickPlay? |

Hi,
The m3u file must contain links to the exact location of the music file, including both the drive and directory name. Assuming your music is stored on an external memory card, every filename entry in the m3u file will therefore need to start D:\Music\. That's why many imported playlists won't work on the P1i.
Because I got fed up with imported playlists not working, I wrote a simple Java program (for PC) which scans for all the music files in a specific folder and creates a playlist in the right format for the P1i. Doesn't work if you want a playlist with tracks taken from various folders. But for CDs ripped using (for example) Winamp, it works fine. Once set up, you can right click on any mp3, m4a or aac file and it will create a playlist of every music file in that directory.
Let me know if this would help anybody.
Best regards,
Malcolm

Ah crap, I actually spent the entire day configuring and updating SEUS. Hell, after update OneClickPlay works for parent folder. Well, since ONP generates randomised playlist, which sucks, I used Microsoft Words to put the list in order. I guarantee that I am the first to do this in this forum. Haha..
Anyway, I need to wait say 12 minutes for the music to update.
Hell. Praise to OCP and MW.
Now I gotta see if it works. |

Anyway Malcom neat website you got, look forward to that free playlist program of yours. Anyway, does jzip opens and encrypt password-protected zip files? |

If this is true, then we can connect the memory card to the computer and open winamp. Then we can creat the playlist from there. After putting back the card to the phone we will be able to use the list. Am I right? |

Sorry, but jZip doesn't open or encrypt password-protected files. Only regular zip files.

You might be right, I haven't tried. If Winamp does this, then great.
In any event, I'll make a couple of small enhancements to my little Java program (3K in size!), write a quick readme file and publish on FreEPOC within the next few days. Freeware as usual

Malcolm

Winamp dosen't work for P1i, I've tried. P1i dosen't play #EXTINFO.
Anyway, I tried the D:music earlier, well it works now for my sample playlist.
I am firing up my Microsoft words and OneClickPlay now and edit all playlists from parent folder.
Aparrently D:music dosen't work before my P1i update, or am I wrong?
Crap....waiting 15 mins more to update playlist with 1000 songs.
Let you guys know the result soon.
----------------------------------------------------------
Anyway I am not allowed to post more than 3 times a day, so I will keep editing this post.
-------------------------------
Hi Fady, thanks for that. I calculated it that the install is 6mb, and the space required may be 10mb. But OCP is less than 1mb and the install does not alter any registry nor dll files, etc.
Since media monkey has so much functions, alas, I only need to create playlist, so I used the more primitive method. And WTH sometimes d:music works sometime dosen't. Man I need a quick bite now.
See ya.
-----------------------------------
Alright guys here is the freaking result. Now fired my P1, and I am inside the playlist folder. Since the player stucked at 'update completed' screen, I already rebooted the P1.
ALright clicking normal playlist...........hmmmmmmmm.....loading.......playlist is empty, ****!
Clicking parent folder playlist..................loading .........................praying..............so long............OH **** it works.
click on major parent folder.............empty
now i gonna really update my music which takes 15 mins.....****
---------------------------
Hi guys,
d:music works but you need to completely let the player update the songs, if you cancel halfway the player won't be able to update the playlist.
One more thing, Is it possible to have unicode m3u rather than ansi? If the songs shows up as ?????? due to other language I am afraid the player cannot play them.
--------------------------------------
Alright mission accomplished. Here is my finding.
Use Windows notepad and save, if you have chinese title songs, in unicode encoding, no need to put m3u8, m3u enough
Then unless it is different from its placed folder, add 'D:musicyour music files or folder'
Simple. OCP dosen't save file in unicode format, so you need to type out any chinese title you have.
Anyway is it possible to download Walkman's music player and use it in my P1i? Where can I download?
--------------------------------------------
Hi Malcom Bryant thanks for your software! It is so rare to find active UIQ3 engineer!
I sincerely hope that jplaylist supports unicode too! To play Chinese songs!
Wish you well.
--------------------------------------------
Hi Malcom, there seems to be a flaw in the sense that jPlaylist cannot save m3u in unicode format, any chinese title is saved as ???.mp3. And P1i cannot play such file. Can you configure jPlaylist.jar to save its file as unicode?

I use media monkey to sync my playlists to my P1i.
http://www.mediamonkey.com/
When you connect your P1i, it should appear on the device list.
Right click on the drive representing the P1i (on the leftside list) and select properties.
Now go to Synchronization options and use the following settings:
Synchronize Tracks to:
Musicmp3 songs<Artist> - <Title>
Tick the option to copy play lists to:
musicPlaylists
You're almost done. Now just right click on any playlist that you'd like to sync to your P1i and select "send to". Your P1 should be on top of the list.
MediaMonkey is an amazing music library software by the way.
Cheers,

i used winamp to create my playlists and it worked fine. the only caveat is that all the files in your playlist MUST be in the same folder as the playlist.
apparently, symbian doesn't like looking in other folders. this, and the unbelievably long time it takes to update music files, is one of the big weaknesses/irritants for me about using a symbian phone. my W880 is MUCH better at handling music.
btw, if you have a very large playlist, it will take a while to load it and when you skip to the next track, there is also another delay before it starts playing the next one.
i really like my P1 but i have to say that the music player's file handling is just 3rd rate. but that's a symbian fault because the nokias i've seen do the same thing. |

I've found the easiest way to me.
Just plug your phone to your computer.
Open the folders where your mp3 files are stored. And open Winamp. Just create your playlist just as you want. Then save the playlist file on your desktop.
Now edit the m3u file with Word Processor.
My mp3 files are stored in my memory card. So the drive letter is D:\
But when plug the phone to the computer the phone memory card's drive seems as F:\ so the playlist links are as F:\music\... etc
What you have to do, after editing the m3u file replace all F:\ with D:\ and save. That's it. Now copy the m3u file in your Phone's drive into C:\music\playlists. (Not in your memory card folder. it should be in phone memory) Now unplug your phone from computer and update your music files. It will find your new playlist after the update.
Have fun.

Well it seems like everyone is finding their own solutions, which is good. But in case it is still useful, I have just released my tiny freeware jPlaylist application (from the website below).
After downloading, there's a small amount of set-up to do, as explained in the readme file. Once done, here's how jPlaylist works:
1. In Windows Explorer, right-click on any music file (mp3, m4a, aac) and select Open With > jPlaylist. A m3u playlist will be created containing every music file in that directory. The playlist will be compatible with UIQ3 phones.
or
2. In Windows Explorer, right-click on any existing m3u playlist and select Open With > jPlaylist. The playlist will be converted to be compatible with UIQ3 phones.
What jPlaylist is doing: very simply ensuring that every track in the playlist is of the format
D:\Music\(album name)\(track name).(suffix)
I find jPlaylist is sometimes useful to me, so I hope it helps some of you.
Best regards,
Malcolm
