Hola..

Is it as simple as it was on the P990i, W950i to set up?

copy the default folders to the root of a memory card and it should install automatically?

or is there some new special way of installing tomtom?

ta!

Yeh you essentially copy all the files to the root of the memory card, it should work, and as i am sure you know you need a GPS receiver for it to actually work.

Hi all.

Is it necessary to buy the DVD package of TomTom Navigator 6 to get the right softwares and maps for my P1i ?

Also, is a Micro Memory Stick M2 of 1Gb enough to store the software and all Western Europe maps ?

Which are exactly the files to be transferred to the card root ?

Best,
Mx

Thanks Atlis, 2 Gb then ...

I did not yet buy the TT Navigator 6 and the card, that's why I would like to clarify before.

What about the other questions of mine :

Only DVD package for finding UIQ3 SW in a directory ?
Which files to transfer onto the card root ?

Also, I was not able to find a good link describing the procedure for installation on a P1i ...

On my DVD their is a UIQ3.cab (or similar) file. Using WinRar I extracted the files. I dropped these on to the root on the memory stick (using the USB cable and file transfer mode), unplugged the cable, popup prompts to install the software. then using the TomTom home was able to put the maps and voices on to the phone.

Many thanks Artesea.
From your words, it appears then that TT6 works well and fast on your P1i ... correct ? Good news anyway ...

TT6 should work fast, but unfortunately they must have messed up the code, and on UIQ3 the refresh rate is quite slow, even slower than UIQ 2.1!
What is interesting is that TT6 doesn't seem to be using processor speed (SwissMgr), so I believe is a problem of bad code implementation.
The only advantage I can see on this behaviour is that it should spend a lot less battery than if the refresh was faster...

@lau, have you tried a different GPS unit. I found my old one didn't like my P990, slow refreshes with all GPS software so I got myself a SirfIII and it works fine.

Mine runs with a CPIT GP-27 http://www.cpit.com/en/GP-27.html

Seems to be running OK... - it's the first sat-nav I've had so don't have anything to compare it against though - but there doesn't seem to be any delay...

@artesea

Interesting... you made me remember one thing:
I'm using bluetooth powersaving and a low baudrate (I think).
Do you think any of these influence the Tom Tom refresh rate?
(I can't test it right now)
