Shure Se530 Worth the price or not. |

Shure Se530 is costing the cheapest place 215 pounds is it worth the price or are SONY MDR-EX71SL good enough.
(I'M a Totally music freak have 500 numbers and i have W960I).

Not sure about that particular model but i used to use the MDR-EX71SL's and upgraded quite a while ago to the Shure EC2g's which at the time were just £40 delivered from Amazon and the difference was very noticeable. Still have the MDR's and tested them the other day and they sounded really bad now i am used to the Shure headphones.
You may not need such expensive Shure headphones to use with a W960 as it may be overkill for a devcie that doesn't have a DSP chip or produce such high volumes as the Shure at that price range really are Audiophile qaulity and would suggest saving money and looking at the cheaper range headphones from Shure that should still give you excellent results IMO.

IMO i would say that virtually any supplied headsets that come with devcies be they mobiles or even stand alone players are only adequate at best. It is always worthwhile upgrading headphones and spending a reasonable amount on them i just think the ones you originally mention are just overkill either the Sony's or the cheaper Shure's will make a big difference but the choice really is yours as to how much you want to spend.

No idea I'm afraid i have never used them so can't comment but we could make this thread last weeks if we tried to compare each available headset. Good sound is quite a personal thing really and what sounds great to some doesn't too others some are very happy with music encoded at very low bit rates and the supplied headphones that come with the device. Personally i think Shure produce really good neutral sounding headphones that allow the Music if well encoded to sound as it should, the only point i was originally making was i just thought your choice was slightly excessive for a Music phone but really only you can decide how much you want to spend and what sounds good to you.

get a set of Denon AH-C700K. They can be bought for $99usd. Or, assuming your budget permits as you wanted very pricey Shures, look at Ultimate Ears Super-Fi Pro or Jays Q-Jays.
The Shure you mentioned are of course a very good set of headphones, and you would expect them to be at that price. I wouldnt use them on any mobile phone though!

IMO, the shure is good, but its overkill for the w960. Like Dogman said, there is no dedicated DSP chip in the w960, so going soo high end is not worth it. Something like the KSC75, maylarone X3i or Yuin PK2 should do just fine. You will notice an improvement over the stock SE buds.
Please stay away from BOSE. They are not BAD but are overpriced for the sound they offer.
On head-fi.org (audiophile forum), they say BOSE = Buy Other Sound Equipment.... 
Another point to consider is, what are you mp3 bit rates?

I guess mobile-review was wrong, in their W960 review, they said:
"In fact, with no dedicated audio chips on offer, Sony Ericsson risks ending up on the skirts of the market."

Thank you for pointing that out, now I know better.
However, I still don't think its good enough to warrant such expensive canal phones such as the Shure SE530.

My previous post just points out the misleading infos and preconceptions regarding SE UIQ 3 phone's Nexperia CPU. actually if we take a look at the time P990 was announced, the S60 phones specifically the N-series don't actually have 3D accelerator as well as a dedicated DSP chip embedded inside the CPU instead, Nokia installed a separate audio chip on N91 to boost it's audio quality to the far extent that until now it's the best in sound quality so by that time P990 was very advanced, it's just the thing that SE did not make their job better that's why P990 was left out of date when it's released 
However, I still don't think its good enough to warrant such expensive canal phones such as the Shure SE530.
