k850i Lens Cover Does Not Open |

I have recently purhcased a SE K850i and after a few days the lens cover for the camera stopped working. When I initiate the camera, the lens cover should slide exposing to lens to light. However this has stopped working and I can only take a picture of the back of the black lens cover.
After a firmware upgrade and a master reset, the problem still persists. Other people with the k850i, unsure of colour, have also had this problem.
I have the green k850i with firmware version of R1DA038.
Thanks in Advanced |

Is yours Vodafone-branded? What was your firmware when that not-opening-bug happened? R1CA029? |

@klp2332
U need not worry about this problem, it's completely normal, this is one of many problems of k850 not only u but many people face in esato.Considering the enormous no of issues faced by k850 by users and no firmware out for a long time, I suggest u get it replaced with some other 5mp phone -g600,g800,n82,n95 or Lg viewty.

You can shake the phone to see if the lens opens, however i woould reomend you getting a replacement.
This is a common feature currenlty on this model. A SE quirk |

Its not branded and the original firmware version was R1CA029.
I have tried tapping it and shaking it hoping it was just a connectivity issue but that didn't work. I have contacted Sony Ericcsson Customer Support in my area and they told me to consult warranty.
But iam going to return it to the shop looking for another K850i because I really like this phone, unless to guys can convince me to opt for another one. |

LOL, I have that issue almost every day with it. I just have to turn the camera application on & off while tapping the lens cover with my finger at the same time. After a minute or 2 doing this it opens. Yeah, I know I shouldnŽt have to do this but you know Sony Ericsson Nowadays...geez....
Currently waiting to see if N96 or N98 are real to STOP buying SE FOR REAL and get the REAL DEAL.....if not IŽll be going for a N95 8GB.....
Well, about your question on another device....try following the advice from people on this thread have said . Because you may get a new replacement and still have the same issues or more or even new issues you hadnŽt before......there are a lot a 5mp phone out there and they ALL take better pics than this 1. Tested by many, many sites.....so the choice is yours.... |

I really can't understand what great brains in SE thought of putting a glass protection cover over the actual lens cover. The job of the cover is supposed to be protecting from dust, scratches and lens damage. Having a glass cover over the cover is like disabling the actuall cover! If the glass cover gets scratched or broken, it's like having no cover at all!! And far from all these, it isn't even dustproof!!
I much-much prefer the k810. The best SE phone so ever!
I think you should take it to a service center since it's still in the warranty.
Why do they always release their phones with crap f/w? What's the hurry? Why do we have to wait for a new hopefuly bugless f/w? And what about all those people who don't know anything at all about updating etc? Are they doomed to have a faulty phone? |

Mine completely died today. I have been trying real hard for the past several hours but in vain. Now I have a 5 MP Cybershot phone with a dead lens cover.

Hey all.
Just read this a i had a similar problem but fixed it finally. I looked everywhere but found no info so almost returned my phone.
I have a vodaphone branded phonea livein South Africa. I have an app on my phone that came with it, FaceWarp. I remember using it and then exitting out of it while playing around and since then it never opened the lense cover again.
I tried the master reset, battey out. Hitting it against my leg, a shake but nothing worked.
I then went back into the app and started pang around and voila the lense opened again. So my idea was it crashed or stuffed some setting on the phone or flag somewhere in memory about weather the cover is open.
Very weird problem but very glad i fixed it. Looking forward to debranding it but not going to pay Da vinci for it. Will do it myself with XS++ when its supported |

I disabled the auto rotate feature in the camera options and this problem of the non-opening lens cover seems to have gone away. |
