Well lets be honest. Its mostly because of Santa.. however the 25th is not the date of Jesus' birth its actualy some time around the spring. The 25th is the date of some Roman festival.
Back on topic. The heart really isnt there anymore. Now it isnt just Christians that celebrate it, but other religons for the presants. There is nothing really wrong with that, but more people think about the gifts then the actual purpose. |

the world, in general, has indeed become too materialistic to even seriously think about the real reason for Christmas... well, it says right there in the word itself: Christ-mas.
belialwafu is right (cheers!). here in our country, Christmas is still celebrated along its true reasons although i could see that for the younger generation, materialism is already starting to creep in as the sole purpose of having the occasion
just my 2-cents...

TBH and most of the time, it's just the material things that matter on most people during xmas the true essence of Christmas is not only within our hearts as our one of the leading TV station always says, but for me the true essence of XMAS is our deliberate faith and thanks to the moment Jesus was born

I think TV stations also have a lot of influence. For instance, I was watching Disney channel with my little cousins many times that day and not once was Jesus even mentioned. Although Santa bid some people of farewell with a "God bless you".
Psicologically one is more fond towards things that give some sort of pleasure, in this case it would be the presents or food (I like the sweetbread).
It's shocking yeah, the person of honour is not invited to his own "birthday party" (even some parties don't look aproppiate for Jesus to be invited imo)
