Memory Stick Pro Duo Problem |

Hi,
I just bought a sony memory stick pro duo of 8GB for my W810i.
Everything worked fine when i started trasferring my music to my phone, but after 3GB everything I put on the stick vanished when i plugged my phone out (and I'm sure I did it right) I continued trasferring my music with bluetooth but after another GB the same problem occured.
Now I can transfer more songs but after te transfer is done the phone (or the card itself) just removes the new files...
Any help would be great!
Thanks!

Is the W810i compatable with an 8gb stick?

why wouldn't it be?
It's a normal pro duo card...if it reads 512MB why would it not be able to read 8GB? Right? |

yeah...not a bad idea...it's not possible for the momement (have no second phone with a pro duo input) but i'll try it for sure...
I tried it also with the pro duo adaptor...so i could directly put it on the card and there i didn't had problems but when i put it in my phone all the new things i set on it were gone...
Could the memory card could in fact be the problem...I mean it's new...and nothing weird happend to it so...
after i put new tracks on my phone the screen just goes blanc for half a minute and then it's gone...so i guess in that half a minite the phone either just removes the tracks or just don't recognise them...

From what I understand, the ProDuo phones only go as high as 4GB, so I doubt 8GB would work.
Bit of a unrealistic statement wasn't it? "It works with 512MB so why wouldn't it work with 8GB?" lol.

what, really?
I tought it workt just like a usb-stick on a pc...that the capacity didn't matter...
Well that explains alot...
what's the explenation for "max 4GB"?
Do you think there would be un update on firmware or something in the near future so i can use the full 8GB? |

The K750 / W800 & W810 only support a maximum mspd size of 4 gb.
I very much doubt that Sony Ericsson will release any more updated firmware packages for either 3 of these phones & it wouldnt solve your 8gb mspd problem anyway.
The memory stick size support is down to the phones hardware when it was first designed not the phones software.
You have 2 options open to you.
1) Stick a 4gb mspd stick in & be happy.
2) Buy a new phone that supports a bigger memory stick.

Is it an actual 8GB Memory Stick Duo or an 8GB M2 with a Duo Adapter? Because that'd explain it (as far as I'm aware the 8GB Duo's never made it to market, could be wrong).
It's a software limitation, and as far as I know, theres no way of removing that limit.
Most phones with a memory card slot have a maximum limit of supported size, dunno why, just always been that way.

8gb mspd cards have been out for a little while now but are expensive & no use what so ever in a K750 / W800 or W810 as the 8gb mspd card isnt supported. |

No no. Sorry, but you're wrong. According to your logic, there's no difference whether you put 5GB or 2GB of RAM in your 32-bit Windows-equippped computer. I mean, it suports 2GB, why shouldn't it support 5? BUT 32bit Operating Systems support only up to 3.5-4GB RAM. |

well ok you all solved my problem
thanks alot!
now i can just use the 8gb mspd but i can max put 4gb on it...(that's the case now and it works fine like that)
maybe in the future i can use the 8gb (and then the full 8gb) for my new phone (but i doubt that mspd would still be in the running then...but hey then there will be bigger memory cards too
the next time i'll think twice about my logical feelings
thanks alot you guys! |
