N81 also has Symbian which allows lots of applications, N-Gage gaming platform, and 8GB memory if you get 8GB version.
With N81, you get the MP3 player and many other features and W910i is a music player and that's about it.
W910i is quite thin and N81 is about 5mm thicker. Don't know about build quality of both phones, but heard W910i has some issues.

i read a lot of reviews and saw a ton of videos... n81 has flash for the camera, and wifi capability, but the slider was not very good, it would make a sound when u pressed down on it... kind of like a thumping noise, and when he flip or shake the nokia it rattles like a childs toy... the thickness doesnt worry me but for $50 more i dunno if i should just get the 2gb version of n81 |

id go for w910............... the n81 might have more features...... but the build is shocking imho! the w910 is much better built, which for me, is enough to make me choose the w910.....

N81 doesnt have a shocking built quality. Just because you got your hands on a bad one doesnt mean you generalize that N81 has bad built quality. Many people will claim they used a W910 with wobbly slider.

@qvga
its a common problem! i played with quite a few at the shop i buy from, were all the same.
you dont need to tell me i could have just gotten a bad one! i know things like that happen, but its not just one, as i said, i played with quite a few!
And many reviews say the same thing.
If there wasnt any other build problems circulating around the internet, then i wouldnt have said it, then i would admit its just a lemon i (my bro) got!

'The slider construction also seems very reliable though it somewhat lacks smoothness' GSM Arena
'The Nokia N81s spring-loaded slider mechanism cant make the halves slide like butter, but thats because of their weight. Compared to the Nokia N80, the N81 is definitely an improvement in this sense, however when it comes to other todays sliders, you come to realize that the slider action in this handset is pretty average not stellar, yet not bad either' Mobile-review
Those are from the 2 biggest reviewing websites. I can hardly conclude that N81 has shocking built quality. Its possible you got a bad batch.

I'd get the W910. (again, personal preference)
The N81 is a tad too bulky for a slider for me (and build quality is pretty average) . Otherwise it's OK.
Oh, and there are too many buttons on the top "slide". That ruins the looks even further.

Oh, and the N81 doesn't have an accelerometer!
Not that it's such a big deal, but it's a really cool feature... |

Hi all,
Well has the W910 had new firmware yet? as from what many have reported it needs one. I would suggest you read the W910 threads on this Forum as i seem to remember it has quite a few issues which if still unresolved could mean waiting quite a while for new firmwares as it may need more than one.
Currently i think SE are not performing anywhere near as they should especially with newly released devices and new platforms. Are you able to check out the handset prior to purchase as that may allay any fears of build quality and on also i believe the N81 has 3.5m jack which the W910 doesn't. On a SE Forum you are always going to get an bias towards SE obviously but really only you can decide what you prefer and suits you best. Also as it appears you may be in the US which one offers the best support for the bands you can use could be a deciding factor.
Marc

assuming you mean me as one who is biased, i say im not! Personal opinion really, build is one factor i look for when buying a phone, one reason i went back to w880, its very well built, that and i dont need any other features really!
if you want it primarily as a music phone, go the n81, it has both better sound through headphones, and of course speaker!

Id get N81, has Symbian OS so you can increase functionality, WiFi, two huge and LOUD 3D loud speakers, a nice and bright 16million colour display, camera with flash, IMO looks SO MUCH MORE stylish and classy than W910, also has the great 369mhz Freescale CPU so its NOT SLOW!! Its actualy just as fast as a SE JAVA, if you have used an N76, 5700, 6110-Nav etc. . . . You will know.

maybe try the 5610 as an alternative to n81 if you dont need symbian/wifi?

Its up to u if u r music lover than i suggest u should go for sony w910 bcoz its a complete Walkman phone music player phone it also has high speed connectivity through 3G HSDPA technology.
But i personally like Nokia over sony phones. Battery power of Nokia N81 is around 240 minutes and has standby time of around 17 days. A 2MP camera included in the mobile phone lets a user click still images with up to 16001200 pixels can playback AAC, eAAC+, AAC+, MP3, WMA/M4A, WAV, MPEG4, H.264, H.263/3GPP, Real video 8/9/10 file formats. Also accessing internet is fast in this handset
for more Info u can check http://www.mobilephoneshopuk.net/nokia_n81.html |
