Linux and the P1 |

I am awaiting delivery of my first Linux machine, do any of you guys know if there is a Linux compatible product that will allow me to use my P1 as a modem under Linux. I use it all the time with WindowsXP through the Mobile networking Wizard.

Congratualtions ... you've done very very very well chosing for linux.
what linux distro do you plan to use?
best option, is bluetooth, which works realy good with your p1.

I belive it is a cut down version of Xandros I have to say it does not mean much to me at present! But I do not want to go to Vista or Mac Os and just wanted to see what the world of Linux is like.
I do not think this PC (Asus Eee) has Bluetooth but I will check, What do you use to connect your P1 to your Linux kit as a modem?

Like himlims said, best to go via the bluetooth stack.
You still haven't told us which distro you are using?
When i figure it out, I'll post it. But haven't tried bluetooth support on slackware 12. |

he bougth the new asus EEEpc(laptop)
that laptop comes with XANDROS linux (KDE)
you gona have a great time whit that pc.
is better for you to put ubuntu or Xubuntu. but thats just me
it sdoesnt have bluetooth but a dongle is ass cheap as a coke(cola)

I plan on getting the Eee PC too, and own a P1i!
I'm trying very hard to wait for the black 8GB version....
Anyway, other linux distros have been installed by many people. You've probably been to www.eeeuser.com one of the best Eee PC communities.
Also, this guy released a custom version of ubuntu tweaked for the Eee PC

my advice:
use the usb cable and not bluetooth.when you use the mobile as modem it will drain the batteries quick. so better keep the usb cable plugged in and get the mobile charged at the same time. make sure usb charge is turned on in your P1i.
xandros is a good linux distro. keep it for now. if u like to try and reinstall something else leave that for later. you will be busy to explore what you have for a while.
start up kppp from the menu. then use mostly same settings as for windows.
except in settings the thing to remember for p1i is to use the correct device under modem settings. there should be an entry named ttyACM1 when P1i is plugged in. save and press connect.

Hi saab_rider Mine is a black 4Gb with 1Gb of RAM (I have not recieved it yet so cant say more)
@SIGHUP the distro is Xandros and Eee does not have Bluetooth .
But my question is: what application do I use to do the "dialing" "Phone recognition" etc as I understand the SE PC Suite is not available for Linux

Hi this is exactly what I want to do with my Acer Aspire One running Linpus Lite (XFce). Could you give me some more info, like if I need any support for this in my kernel?
