Hi guys, I have little tired on mp3 player over mobile phones. So this time I’m thinking about to get an iPod. I hadn’t any iPod before, so my question is, in practically which one is better? iPod classic 80GB or iPod touch 16GB? If you have both or had chanced to use both, then please share your opinion.

Thanks in advance.

i had a iphone but prefer listen to music on my classic as on the touch/iphone you have to take the device out to pause/play skip tracks with the classic you can do it in your pocket.

however i dont need the internet i already got a archos 605 or my eeepc if i need browsing.

itouch is more likly to be stolen imo if your walking around changing tracks holding it in ur hand

It's not quite a classic but I have an 5G 80GB Video and I'd deffo go for the Classic. It's more subtle, not as showy as the Touch and will look mint for longer.
Plus I have an entire back-up of my laptop wherever I go.. Not really a plus but it's pretty impressive.

Hi all,

Well i have had a 80GB 5tn Gen iPod for a few months now and i must say i am really impressed by the quality sound i get using a pair of Shure EC2g headphones. I didn't realise when i bought it as it is my first iPod but apparently this version delivers the best sound especially over the newer models.

I nearly sold it recently as was going to use my N95 8gb but by going back to it realised it really is much better and as i have a Vaja case is both well protected and easy to carry, i really love it and am so glad i didn't sell it in haste.

Hi Fatreg,

It's on the Faithless greatest hits Album actually although previously i have always been happy and content with 6-7 Albums on my Phone having 80gb for Music and Podcasts really is very nice. As i now literally have the widest choice possible of things to listen to, i was not a believer in the whole iPod hype but having had one for a few months i really am converted. Although i tried i really don't think i could go back to a Music phone again although that B&O Sereneta or the Samsung i450 my change my mind on that. But that's the good thing about having an open mind as it means never say never to anything.

Hi Marc,
Thanks for your reply. You know recently I returned my N95 for its autofocus problem. So I’ve thinking about to get N95-8GB or iPod. But after you reply, I’m quite sure about to get iPod. I’m not satisfied with my SE-W950i; after firmware updates its volume become too low through HBH-DS970 or a regular headphone. In Bangladesh we don’t have a regular apple store, so may be, I have to buy it from local market. So in there may be I can’t compare which color one is best, because all are intact packet. So could you tell me, which color looks great?

I have an ipod touch. The comment about having to take out the ipod to switch tracks is not quite accurate, you can just get a 2 pound remote like this one:

And yeah, you can do so much more with an ipod touch than a harddisk based player, apart from hacking it, its skip proof, bump proof, and the ui is just insane.

@Johnex

Well i have to say i have never had mine skip a track or do anything it shouldn't but having said that i don't run whilst using it either. When i bought mine the Touch hadn't come out yet but from what i have read the 5th Gen has the best hardware and produces the best sound which for me and listening to Music is far more important than a pretty UI.

As long as i can select an Album or playlist and listen to it i couldn't really care less about the UI as i don't watch it while listening to Music i use it for a minimal amount of time to select what i want to listen to that's it. if it didn't have Album Art i really couldn't care less. But then what is good for some of us isn't for all otherwise there would be no need for such a large variety of devices.

@adnansanni

No not really as what i like may not be what you like but you can't really go wrong with Black IMO and it's chrome on the rear.

Marc

Well doggman, sure best sound for mp3, but.....you missed something, the ipod touch supports ALAC (Apple lossless audio codec), which means you have lossless sound, like a wav file on a cd, but compressed without loosing any information, unlike mp3's. Highest mp3 bitrate is some 320kbps nowadays,while alac is the equivalent of 3000kbps. A typical mp3 is 8mb big, while alac is around 30mb big. If you have a nice set of reference audio headphones or nice speakers then mp3 just doesnt cut it for audio anymore. And yeah, nice UI, but functional, i read mail, download music, surf the web all while listening to high quality music, and if i drop your ipod touch (which i have), just pick it up and smile! I have 3 friends that have dropped their 5.5g ipods, and they did not survive, not even from 1 meter.

Hi Johnex,

Fair enough but i am only now being educated by icka about increased quality encoding having coming from 160kbps AAC to now 256kbps AAC and gapless recording is good enough for my needs as i only use it whilst in the car or walking Otis. I have a set of Shure EC2g headphones which whilst being a great step up from my old Sony MDR-EX71SL's don't think they ae quite audiophile quality close but not quite. I can appreciate all the Touch does but it's just not necessary or needed by me and what i want i just need good quality Music playback that's it. I also don't drop or treat my kit badly hence the excellent Vaja case.

@ Marc, Indeed Why Go? Is on Forever Faithless along with another 2 tracks that were previously released! I can't help but feel that To All New Arrivals is no where near as good as No Roots, I feel somewhat like Maxi Jazz is getting a big too old for the dance music scene
