Hi there,

I would just like to check and see if anyone else has, on their box, a 1gb memory card listed under the contents?

My phone came with a 512mb, and this didn't bother me too much initially.. But I've started running low on space now (i've had the phone around 3 weeks), and so I tried chasing this up with Orange to get myself the 1gb card I *should* have.

I went into the Orange Shop where I bought the phone and spoke to the guy who sold me the contract as he still recognised me, and he went out the back to check the other phones. Apparently all of the phones say that on the box, but none of them have 1gb cards. They all have 512mb. So there was nothing he could do, he said I should ring 150 and try and take it up further with them.

I just came off the phone to the upgrades department on 150 (the only one that seemed to slightly apply to my problem - they really need to include more options!), and the guy I spoke to wasn't very helpful at all. He was dead-certain that the phone only came with a 256mb card. I stressed to him that the box definitely says 1gb is included, and that even the person I spoke to in the Orange Shop agreed that I should have one.. But the one on the phone was the most unhelpful person I've ever spoken to, it was like nothing I said to him would make any difference to the fact that the box SAYS I get a 1gb card, and I only got a 512.

I'm hoping there are others in the same situation as I, and that you'll all help me in resolving this matter and getting what we actually paid for!

Thanks

You have a contract with the store who sold it you that they supply the phone and contents as listed on the box ....

Therefore if the box clearly states that its a 1gb included and they won't honour it then they are simply in breach of the trade descriptions act.

Either they supply the goods as declared or you are within rights to cancel the contract.

Exactly. How do I go about this though if I don't want to cancel my contract? This is what the guy on the phone said to me, that nothing I say or do will get me a 1gb card because it's listed as only being supplied with a 256mb (I checked the online shop, and it says that on there too..).

This doesn't change the fact that the box does clearly state that the phone includes a 1gb card. I'm not prepared to cancel my contract over this, but I don't understand why Orange are so adamant about supplying me with what should be mine anyway (or even exchanging my current 512mb for a 1gb, I don't expect both..), and not rather do that than lose my business - which would be the remaining 17 months of the 18 month contract.

I'm really disappointed with Orange over this, I've had nothing but good reliable service with them until now.. And something so small, they're completely unwilling to resolve.

Get a name of someone is customer relations. write to them (recorded post) stating that if they do not supply you with the full product as advertised then you will take it up with trading standards, and give a 14 day deadline.

The only problem with this could be the fact that, as far as I know, it is not advertised anywhere as coming with a 1Gb card except on the box itself, which you normally do not see until you buy it. Advertising material instore and online both state it has a 256Mb card, which I assume was your assumption until you saw the box. So under those circumstances you bought it knowing what was included, at no time before you paid for it did you believe you were getting a 1Gb card, the fact you got a 512 card is a bonus in itself.
