Thinking of getting the K850i? DON'T! |

If you're thinking about purchasing the K850i then I recommend you don't.
I've spent a few months living with this insult of a phone now and it's really starting to become the object of hate in my life.
It's riddled with bugs, the buttons are great but only if you enjoy having to retype text messages over and over again because the miniscule buttons are too small and close together and it's sloooooooooooooooow.
The K750i was great. The K800i was great. So what's going on with the K850i?
It's a dissapointment and an insult to the earlier phones. It's so bad I'm even tempted to go back to Nokia!! Never thought I'd say that, but after another case of 'Operation Failed' while trying to read my text messages and not being able to receive or send texts I've finally decided enough is enough. I was very tempted tonight to punish the devil phone by placing it under the wheel of my car and reversing, it may in a crushed state be more useful as a paperweight than it is in it's semi working state of a phone.
Did Sonyerricson even test this thing before releasing it? Did their designers spend months on the phone and forget about the buttons and just before the phone was made draw a few small squares on to quickly cover this fact up? Who knows, but one thing is for sure, the K850i is seriously letting me down.
I've had touch screen phones before, but somehow this one manages to be a pain when on a call. None of my other touch sensitive phones seemed capable of selecting different options while I was on a call. This one can. It can even put people on hold! This impressive extra is a suprise feature, you don't actually want the call on hold or whatever other function it will wonderfully select, but there you have it anyway.
Yes, the camera is nice, BUT I would also like to be able to text and make a phone call on my mobile PHONE without problems.
And another annoyance, it seems that despite mine being an unbranded and unlocked model it just won't for whatever reason update via SEUS! I'm trying to fix bugs, but no, it knows that I may be able to use some of it's features again if I do that so it's fighting that off by not even recognising the USB cable.
This phone is incredible. It seems to go out of it's way to be a pain in the behind.
If you're thinking of getting one, I wouldn't, unless you are the kind of person that enjoys unreliable and uncomfortable devices. |

i am sorry to hear about the problems you are having with your phone, but to be honest, being a nokia user, and having a word with a s.e rep who came to my work, the handset is actually pretty good. yes it has bugs, but don't all phone have bugs? name one phone that has been bug free. regarding the issues you are having now with your current phone, they will be resolved by the new update that will be available from monday the 10th from the s.e website, or you can update the software yourself using the over the air update service available on your device. |

This has BEEN an OLD ISSUE with fones . . . and I MEAN: INITIAL -released models (out in the market) . . .
It's very ADVISEABLE to purchase NEW models, say about 2-3 months AFTER it's INITIAL market release . . . so that, software and whatever problems have already been sorted OUT
Well for those who have purchased the NEW ones . . . there's always a firmware update in the website to remedy the problems.

I know most phones have bugs and it's something I've experienced in the past, but the K850i seems to have more bugs than others. I've never been made so irate by a phone! It's a handset, but it's managed to get me beyond angry with it's unreliable, slow, constantly failing software! How is it possible for such a small thing in life to annoy me to such a degree? Take a week or two with the K850i and you'll see.
I read about the update when I googled my problem. It seems many others also have this problem and even when the odd person has managed to fix it, it's come back! Text messages are a HUGE part of communication in the UK and for a phone to make this completely impossible that's a massive frustrating problem.
The problem with me is that even when the update is released on the 10th of December I won't be able to get it. My phone won't recognise the SEUS software for some reason. All my previous SE phones did and worked fine, but this one won't. I've selected the right phone on the menu, followed the on screen instructions and then everything just sits there and does nothing....
And as for updating over the air, it never seems to work for me. Not sure if that's something to do with the O2 network, but my phone is unbranded so it's not the software. I always get told the software on my phone is the latest version, despite there being updates available (this was the same on the K800i as well, told it was the latest version, plug it in to SEUS and it updated).
I'm sorry, but this phone is just pants. I've so far managed to put most of my work collegues off it and the one person that didn't listen to me is now starting to regrest it as they join me in my phone hell.
This is the first time ever in my life I've considered purchasing another phone at full price because I've upgraded to a phone I just cannot live with and I've had many phones over the last 10 years. This will cost me hundreds of pounds, but I can't stand the K850i. It's an evil phone, it's almost like it knows it's winding me up and is watching me. I know that sounds crazy, but I've never known a device fail be so bug filled or fail so much in my life. Surely it's not designed this way? In fact, was it designed or just dreamed up over night? |

I wouldn't tell people not to buy it. It's riddled with bugs, yes, but we know these are going to be sorted out. I use it every day and don't have any major issues. It has so much potential which is yet to be unleashed, and it will.

I would, and do. I don't want the people I know cursed with this piece of rubbish! 12 to 18 month contracts could be hell if you're stuck with an unusable phone like the K850i.
I also have a whitelable mobile phone comission site where people can buy phones through my website and I get £10 for each contract sold. I'm just trying to figure how to add a warning or remove the phone completely from the list of latest handsets so I don't get users of my site with the same problems.
Maybe if SE didn't release a prototype on the market and gave us a phone ready to be released there'd be no problem, but even then how about those buttons? There's no fixing those.
And here's another nice one, I have plenty of great photos from days and nights out. Here, let me show you, OH NO! I can't, the K850i has corrupted them!!! Ah well, I'll deleted the corrupted photo and use the space for further photos, DOH! no I won't, it's wanting to keep it's trophy, the file that it managed to upset me with. So it's corrupted, I can't delete it and I can't view it. Nice.................... |

Yep, just looking at replacement phones now and being tempted back to Nokia which I never thought I'd do. This piece of rubbish is either Ebay'd to try and get back some of my losses or I may let out my anger on it and show it on Youtube receiving payback with a full listing and demonstration of why (and why you shouldn't buy a K850i). |

I agree that it has some issues, but yours sounds considerably worse than any others I've read about. You've had a particularly bad experience, but I don't think it's fair to put everyone off.

I would at least like to save my friends, family and work collegues from the same annoyance and am doing my best to do so.
If I also stop my own whitelabel site from selling it as much then I'm saving a few hundred people the problems too or can at least tell them about my own experience before they press the buy button with a pop up window. If it's a true account of my own experience there's no harm done and they can make their own minds up if they want that handset or another. |

Good for you.
All I'm saying is you must have a very early build that has serious issues, and you shouldn't put people off of buying one now.

agreed.
its clear this member should get rid of their phone, or replace it, return it or whatever.
but we have plenty of threads discussing K850 issues without every member starting a new one so I'll close this now
