So I threw my jeans in the bathtub to soak overnight regretfully unaware that my W810 was still in the pocket. Yes, I cried like a school girl when I found it absolutely water logged the next morning. Obviously lifeless I pulled out the battery, sim, and memory card and left it to dry over a fan for about a week before trying to power it on again. Dead... nothing!

So my question is, before I up and pool together Xmas funds and spring for a new one (heard they're only like $300 now) does anyone know if it is possible to have it repaired or is it a total loss?

quite possible a total loss, but try spraying the mainboard (but avoid the mic as it seems to kill them) with WD40 or contact cleaner, let it soak for a min or two then dry off and try the phone.

@Sammy

Thanks, I didn't try opening it up as I thought I'd screw it up further. Don't I need a special tool as I thought they didn't look like regular screws if I remember right?

indeed, that is a tragedy, mate...

looks really dead to me with that overnight soak. you could try sammy's advise but don't expect too much. you need special screw drivers to open up and disassemble your W810i... i guess, the price is lower than what you've quoted. why not try looking for other models as well in the process?

so sorry to read about your W810. such a great phone.

You'd need a Torx T6 screwdriver, which you can pick up for next to nothing on Ebay, an electrical shop may stock them too possibly.

Use this as an opportunity to get another W810. There are plenty of good deals out there right now.

Went digging around in the tool drawer and as it turns out I happen to have one of those T6 tools. Gave them a twist but the phone didn't seem to separate or open up that easily and without seeing a how to dissassemble guide I decdided I shouldn't go prying apart at i twithout having a clue what I was doing. I do love the phone however as it seems the newer Walkman's did away with the flash which I found necessary for quality shots. Looks like I'll head over to SE's site and see for sure what they're going for. I would really prefer to replace it before it's phased out. They went and got rid of the T610 before I had the chance to replace that one a while back and that was a real classic, my first favorite.

Ahhhhhhhh man, got on the SE USA site where I originally ordered the phone from and it showed it as $299 but when I went to investigate further it turns out it's no longer available. I am beyond bummed. You know how you get attached to a phone. I mean the newer W890 looks cool and all but why would they make a great phone without the flash? Does anyone else know of a reputable in the states to order from that may carry discontinued models?

hey dude same thing happened with my friend , with his W850 ...

He went to biggest service centres ... they coudn't fix it ... then we went to a cheap little local mobile shop , There he asked whether they could fix it or not ... they took the Phone and told my friend to come after 2 weeks , they would fix it ... he went after 2 weeks and it was there working , then it was found out that they changed the board of the phone and put a new T-Mobile branded Board , they put an old board but it works ...

His phone works perfectly fine now ...
BuT the board cost the same price as the phone right now ...
I love my K750 !
I love my N73 Music Edition !

Hmm... Why not consider the K770 if you're looking for a replacement? I've not used one before, but I'm using a W810 now and if I had to get a replacement, that would probably be on my list. It has A2DP and a camera lens cover, which I think are good additions to have.
Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most.

Yeah, the K770i or the T650i if you like the design better. Although the T650i lacks a lens cover, but you should be used to that from your W810i.

Good luck!

Off topic I know but what type of jeans where they? The only people I know that soak jeans overnight in bathtub are those that dont want to loose the indigo etc on very expensive jeans Dior?

Thanks for all the info guys. I'll check out the link and perhaps opt for a new one if If the site looks legit.

Ha Ha, and no the jeans weren't Dior, just really dirty Levi's that I had been tromping through the mud and snow in all night around town. I was more than a little slanted by the time I got home and thought it seemed like a pristine idea to soak them over night before tossing them in the laundry.
