Hi there
I bought a Sony Ericsson W580 last week and already got it wet! the phone works fine. but there are 4 buttons that don't work. I took the battery out yesterday and left it to dry and when i turned it back on the buttons worked but after a while stopped.
do you think my phone is save able?
would really appreciate the help as am devastated. |

sorry to hear.
take it back from where you bought the handset and ask if they offer a repair service(if you purchased from a mobile phone retailer). Carphonewarehouse has on site repair service as long as you can provide a proof of purchase i believe.
*also most comprehensive mobile phone insurance also covers for water damage, worth looking into |

I think that you need to buy the insurance at the time of buying the phone. This stops people buying the insurance just to make a claim.

if i bring it back will they not just take it apart and say its water damaged? do you think it would be useful to send it to a mobile repair company? |

Theres a little white sensor hidden inside the phone that changes colour if it gets water on it ( red if I remember correctly ) so theres a 50 / 50 chance the repair centre will notice its got wet.
Try taking it back to the shop, explain the phone just started playing up & hope they swop it & not send it away for repair.

Sorry to pour cold water but if the dots/little piece of white sticker inside batt compartment become red it is 100% they will notice it as I believe it is there so the service centre can tell whether the phone is damage by water. |

trust me, its easy to find out if the phone is water damaged.
1. the sticker is red
2. there is usually corrosion on the main board

From first hand experince, I can tell you that when I dropped my phone in water and it started playing up, it was the beginning of the end.
It retained certain fucntions right to the end, but eventually became unusable. Hope this is not the case for you though. |

if he takes it back to the shop and its under 28 days old they should just replace it without even checking it as long as u show them the fault or if u say its intermittent they should just take your word....either way if its under 28 days old and u bought it from a respectable shop they should replace it without checking for water damage

Or..... if the sticker is red, remove it.......

Mobile insurance companies mostly offer 'Emergency Insurance'. On Orange for example, you can have it replaced for 30pnd. Admittally they make you commit to having insurance for 12 months but you just pay 1 month then call C/S and they take it off.

Most look... Its the first thing they do! They are personally held responsible if a damaged phone is returned to stock.
