Why is it that after you have posted a message (a reply) and click "view my message" or just wait, it takes you back to the FIRST page of the thread, instead of YOUR post on page x?
It's kind of annoying... |

Yeah.. its a known issue.. I have learned to live with it though. One option would be to set your posts in ascending(or is it descending)so that the last page of the thread will show up as the first.

Even after 6000 posts it still annoys me.
Then again, it is just one extra click I suppose, I can live with it.

yes, we have discussed this endlessly before and I am sure its on a todo list but for a long time I have used the descending order as whizkidd mentioned, which can be found in Preferences

Esato is using an early version of phpBB, hacked about of course - and this is just one of the flaws in that version. I know it well because I used to run a site based on PHPnuke, which also incorporated a version of the same software with the same problems. Actually I still run that site now, only we've gone through Postnuke (also using the same forum) to Drupal, with a completely different forum structure now.
Anyway, the point is, back when I was using this same software I wrote a number of fairly simple hacks to get around this and some other probs. On my version, you'd always be taken to the last page of a thread after posting (almost certainly the page your post was on), and you could also preview your post, and edit it without your signature getting all mangled up.
I'm very rusty on it all now - I don't mess around with code at all anymore, I just let Drupal do it's thing - but if Laffen did want any help with this, I'm happy to get involved... I still have all the old files I was using, which could be compared to versions here. It'd be up to Laffen if he was comfortable with me meddling though...

@masseur, I think emails and threads are a little different, in the sense that I'd usually want to see what the OP posted, and go through the discussion in chronological order, rather than going backwards. For emails, I can understand that it's better to view the latest one first, and that's exactly how I do it myself. In any case, it's a small annoyance, but I've gotten used to it. |
