To those subscribed to Smart Communications (Philippines) hold your horses before you upgrade to R6A012.
I had mine upgraded last week, and was able to receive mail. Today, i've lost my GPRS signal, and the phone has difficulty getting a GPRS signal. You have to turn off the phone (and sometimes remove the SIM) to get a GPRS signal, but is not a guarantee.
This has been verified after my colleague had her phone upgraded too, to R6A012. She lost her GPRS too.
I called Smart and they told me that they did a "minor" adjustment and that's it.
So far, I have just once, sucessfully loaded Smart's I-NET page, and that's it. I, neither my officemate's phone can get a GPRS signal.
Anybody else on Smart's network who's on R6A012 now? We'd like to hear from you. |

FYI, non-R6A units does not exhibit the problem i mentioned.
For your information superunknown, firmware upgrades are also made to cater to operators' requirements/customization/etc. so it has everything to do with it. And for your additional information too, Globe use Ericsson for their GPRS and MMS equipment while Smart use Nokia.
@Jowi, I didn't care to ask. I just told them to fix it. The technical team is working on it. |

Sad to hear about what happened to the smart subscribers. Sir arnold, i know exactly the hassle of not having a gprs signal brings. Especially since we all got accustomed to the benefits it brings. So far no problem with globe. Phone doesn't freeze anymore even with long text messages. Imho, This is the best version out so far.

One unit was upgraded last week at Smartnet, Asia Latin version of R6A012 and the other unit was upgraded earlier at S.E.S.S with EMEA version of R6A012. |

For additional info- my unit hangs twice; first when my tasks alarmed and second when i received a call; both resets after i press the YES button.

that is kinda strange for SE, coz there are hundreds of service providers througout the world and im sure Smart is not the only one using Nokia hardwares, so how can they have overlooked or allow this basic signal problem slip under noses? |
