Sony Ericsson has topped Greenpeace’s latest list on eliminating harmful chemicals in electronic products. Sony Ericsson is now closing in on a 8/10 grade on the “Guide to Greener Electronics” with Samsung right behind. Sony Ericsson has always been pretty high on this list, but the reason why it’s become number 1 now is because of some new products without PVC.

Great news. Its nice to see the company being judged environmentally and it looks like Samsung is doing just as well.

Its great to see them making the effort and if you can please Greenpeace then thats definitely something to shout about.

Yes, it truly is

What really makes me happy (or laugh) is that Nokia has dropped from the lead position to what it is now

No, check out these articles @ Greenpeace.org

How green is that iPhone?

As you said it yourself - consoles. How do they get rid of the electronics, what is being used to create things and such is what the grades are based on.

then shouldnt sony be along side MS? they've sold millions more consoles than MS and they make more electronics.

That just means Sony is better at getting rid of the stuff or uses better materials, etc. - stuff that isn't bad for the environment.

@QVGA

I depends on how easy it is to dispose of the materials when they're no longer needed and what percentage of that waste can be recycled safely and without harming the environment.

When you consider how many phones will be sold this year - what is it - just over One Billion?

If every one of those phones weighed 100g then thats roughly One hundred thousand tonnes of waste to deal with - some toxic.

MS produce a lot more than just games consoles. They manufacture a bucket load of accessories for PC's, games (all in pvc cases probably), and other stuff.

Likewise with Apple: computers, accessories, ipods, iphone etc etc.

And as goldenface says it's not about how much a company produces, but how harmful the chemicals are that they use in production.

Get this statement from Greenpeace:

The disassembling also revealed the iPhone's battery was, unusually, glued and soldered in to the handset. This hinders battery replacement and makes separation for recycling, or appropriate disposal, more difficult, and therefore adds to the burden of electronic waste.

It's always been the Apple way to solder their batteries in to ipod, of course iphone will be no different
