Finally, I tried K850 for the first time today on a store, and I had to take a picture using its camera:
http://mike.thedt.net/images/temp/DSC00009.jpg
Disappointment.

Compare this to the pic my K800 took:
http://mike.thedt.net/images/temp/DSC00892.JPG
Wonderful.

Auto settings were used on both phones. I believe that I could get a better picture on the K850 if I had configured WB, cleaned the camera glass, had a more steady hand, etc.

Other than that the phone was slower in animations compared to my K800 (not talking about gif animations, but animations like the menu opening, etc).
The touchkeys were ok. Not too bad, but not too good either. I can't understand why the heck they put the "Back" function to the right touchkey when the "Back" function was always on the left part of the phone! It looks like you just need to get used to them.
I didn't really like the new DPad, since it was a little hard to press, and sometimes I miss-pressed the two buttons in it.
The phone was very heavy compared to my K800. When I took out my K800 to receive the picture you saw above it felt so light and faster than K850! I was also glad I still had a joystick
The media manager application was nice. I really liked the background.
I really enjoyed the marble game though. However it would have been nice if it had an arrow pointing where you have to go, since I couldn't even make it past the first level ...

I have a K800 flashed to K810. That's why it says K810 in the EXIF information.
The picture was indeed taken at different times, but lighting didn't change since the place where they have the mobile phones is deeper in the store, so outdoor light won't reach there.

IMO, the K800 pic looks more natural.

The K800/K810 sw on your phone shows far far less JPEG mush than the K850 pic.

The mush is very bad on this phone. I think in order for the phones processor to deal with the far larger images the 5MP cam produces... SE squeeze the hell out of the image.

Not good.

the 5.2mm focal length is small for a 5mp cam sensor.

Plank, that's because you resize and sharpen your images.

At full size the images from the phone should still be sharp with no visible JPEG artefacts - especially in Fine setting. They dont.

Took a few shots in London today... bright light, sunshine, out doors. Came out too soft and the colours washed out.

In normal I could understand some compression artefacts... not in the Fine setting.

Nearly any soft / poor image can be effectively given a sharper and thus perceived higher resolution look by scaling it down.

A full size image should be sharp and clear in Fine mode. I could live with slowness in displaying or recording in the phone if the images came out like a 5MP cameras image should do.

Quite simply they don't. Stop kidding yourself.

@plankgatan

OK then you say this in every thread just what is your explanation for so many bad pictures and so many dissatisfied users then? Especially as so many of them are already K series owners and SE fans.

Or are you going to suggest really they are all just Nokia fans out to discredit SE? In fact in the K850Firmware thread there is even Jonathan Morris who works for a Mobile Magazine that reviews devices for his living and he definitely knows how to use a K series phone. To put it simply everyone else can't possibly all be wrong and only you are right, can they?

@planks - Not EVERYbody here is as GOOD as you are when taking images from their camfones . . . may it be a K750 or a K850. Though I am very certain that PRACTICE really can make things PERFECT ! So, start practicing mates . . . so you can be PERFECTs . . . PERFECTs do NOT need to PRACTICE anymore ! [addsig]

What's your problem!? Why do you always have to start arguing? He just said that usually K850 takes far better pics. And I can confirm that. I've seen many fantastic pics taken with a K850.
It's all about the settings...

Btw, the picture I posted may have been taken with Normal quality instead of Fine, since I left everything at default. I don't know if somebody else put it at Fine.

Edit: Just found out that my K800 was configured at Normal quality.
