When I first got my T68i, I connected it to my charger and it charged with the phone powered off(the red light would blink on the phone to let me know this). Now, for some reason everytime I connect the battery charger, the phone powers up automatically and it says "optimized charging". Why won't my phone let me charge the battery while it is powered off?

the power is off...it does that to show you it's charging, it is not connecting to the network or doing anything but showing you the progress

the blinking red means the battery is dead, if i recall, which might explain why it didn't show on the screen the first charge

yeah, it may time some time to start
but u should try not to over drain your batteries (Li-Poly) since it can shorten the life.
