Having received the K850 and trying the camera for approx 50 pictures now these past days. I can say that I am deeply and honestly dissapointed.
I am a big fan of SE phones, had them all, I love my K750 and the picture quality from that - have taken tons of great pictures with K750, many of them posted on Esato as proof.
But K850 camera is utterly crap - sincerly.
And I do know what Im doing.
Pictures come out with completely wrong colorbalance, wrong whitebalance, wrong exposure, out of focus (unsharp), tons of jpg compression noice, flash going on/off totally random with pictures being completely dark or other strange behavior.
In any case no matter if I use all automatic settings, or finetune everything manually using years of experience in photography - more or less every picture comes out wrong in every way possible. I havent been able to make a single shot that looked nowhere near the standard quality of K750 pictures, regardless of weatherconditions, outdoors, indoors, sunny sky etc. etc.
Sure its 5 mpixel instead of 2 - which has absolutely nothing to do with how well the optics and cameraengine handles pictureprocessing - and in this case the higher resolution doesnt add anything but more compression artefacts and generally poor pictures.
on top of that - the phone itself is sluggish to a point where its very irritable.
In all my years with SE I have never felt so cheated than from this phone - a socalled cybershot cameraphone - they should have called it Cybercrap and only sold it to underdeveloped countries at a low cost.
I must say I am really annoyed and mad at SE for this stunt - and if they do not send out a firmware to fix this properly very soon - I will terminate my companycontract for 1500 SE phones, and give the contract to Nokia instead to make sure they understand just how annoyed I am.
I dont care if N95 (or any other phone) is better or worse - thats of no interest to me - what interest me only is if the K850 performs as advertised and it is advertised as a true cybershot cameraphone that should be a big stepup from K750
And it simply is not.

numb - welcome to the party.
I'm on my 3rd and will be going for a 4th as the bluetooth audio over Jabra JX10 and TomTom 710 is either non existant or crackling / drop outs / repeated audio (not an echo).
I too feel this camera phone is no better than my K800 and it is also unstable beyond belief. Running 037 firmware and its still useless. |

sounds like you've got a faulty one numb - the pictures on mine are really, really clear and crisp, so much better than my k750 - and that's in well lit conditions to night clubs. |

I do agree with the color balancing / correction / post processing etc.
Whenever i take a picture inside using flash (in the afternoon), the pictures come out as if i took the picture at night, the windows are 100% dark.
Though, i still have hope until new firmware versions are released. |

Hearing that the N82 is already shipping is a real twist of the knife - if I'd have known it would be out so soon I would have waited a few weeks before getting my K850. Although I don't actually have my K850 as it's back with O2 for up to 10 working days getting sorted out. Very much another unhappy K850 buyer.

Relax Numb,
Looks like you have got carried away from the 5 mp boom,
great photos dont necessarly come from a great camera but rather from a great camera + a great user.
There is a big science as to how to use a camera, there's lots of focussing, adjusting and alot of study to do before you pick up the camera....best purchase a good guide which will tell you how to click good snaps..... |

So you mean that the K850i is more difficult to shoot good photos with? Read Numb's post and see that he was happy with his K750i. Sounds to me that the K850i is not as much of a P&S camera as the K750i was.

no I did not get carried away by anything and I will not relax
If you had been on esato as long as I have, you would be familiare with my history here, with the many many pictures i have posted here, and with my knowledge on using not only mobilecams but also regular cameras - and you would not suggest that my problems are userrelated.
They are purely hardwarerelated - nothing else. And the hardware causing the problems are the K850.
I will later this evening post some comparison shots between my K750 and my K850 to proove my point.

I think he knows how to use it. He's simply got a faulty phone.
Return it on DOA or whatever purchasing terms you got where you live, and get a new one. |

@numb
i have a w800i for last 2years, i found the camera to best.with solid camera dust protection, great quality photos and noiseless pictures in daylight.
Youre right k750 and
w800i,k800.k810 all takes better photos than k850 imo.I find k850 pics noisy
Its my opinion and people could stick to tell wht they want to tell the author.
did u pick up the K850's first version or, i 've heard there is new version which has slight improvements in build quality, but of course it doesn not good to picture quality.

Better according to who? I think he bought the K850 because he wanted a K850 to start with. |

AND look at the shots in the post your K850 pics-thread. I've had a W800 and it did NOT take better shots than the K850. To claim that it does is just false. |
