T68i and iPaq 3970 Dialup probs |

Hi,
I've just got a SE T68i and an iPaq 3970 (the bluetooth one). I tried using these to connect to the 'net with my ISP (Freeserve, in the UK), but it doesn't work.. the phone dials, but hangs up after 10 secs. This is weird, cos it works with my friend's Nokia 6310i on the same ISP, and my using his iPaq (3660) instead of mine works..
Anyone know what's going wrong here?
Here are the connection settings on the iPaq, just in case:
Modem: Bluetooth Dialup modem
Baud Rate: 9600
Data Bits: 8
Parity: None
Stop Bits: 1
Flow Control: Hardware
IP: server-assigned
Software compression ON
IP header compression ON
Name servers: server-assigned
Phone number: 08450796699
Wait for dial tone before dialling ON
No extra dial-string modem commands.. I could only find the ones for GPRS, and they didn't work either
Any help very much appreciated! |

Thanks.. It's not just a bluetooth thing. It doesn't work over IR either (but does on the 6310i, or the iPaq 3660).
At first I thought maybe it was O2, and that they hadn't data-enabled my SIM, but I can access WAP (can't get GPRS on my account), but then I tried my Force9 account, and that works! But Freeserve (0845 access) and Easynet (0207 number) do not.
The modem log from the iPaq after trying to dial Freeserve or Easynet says "NO CARRIER" but doesn't have this with F9, as it works. Anyone know what this means, and are there any settings I can change to make it work? |

have u asked freeserve for advise?? - there is free software to configure this ipac (Im think) with T68i handset from orange - it has a list or ISP's biult in - u just add ur password etc - but it may not work with genie/O2 - check www.orange.co.uk - it may be under the wirefree or business section - I was reading about it yesterday - give it a shot - if you can't find wait & I'll look it up again when im back workin, cos it's new or due to be released.

I've not, no. But frankly, Freeserve's tech support is s**t. I wouldn't be surprised if their 1st line support people didn't know what an iPaq was!
I tried that configurator on Orange's site - cool stuff! I wish O2 were that useful (and that their fscking awful site worked at all anyway - I can't even view my bill at the moment cos their new site is so broken!)
But anyway, did exactly what the configurator said to do for Standard CSD, and still no
Again, the modem log just said "NO CARRIER" at the end of it.. What's Orange's network like, and do they do any cheap tariffs with lots of free mins?

Yeah, just had a look. the High Speed Data tariff looks good (£10pm).. T68i SW ver is R2B025.. That's the latest one isn't it?
I just think it's weird how I can connect to Force9 but not Freeserve or Easynet.. |

*sigh* after playing around with different phones/SIMS/Networks, it seems that O2 are to blame for all this!
Easynet connects first time, everytime with Vodafone in both my T68i (over IrDA and BT) and my Nokia 7110 (IrDA).
Not sure what else I can do about this, except get a new network operator.. |

looks that way - or ISP - the high speed plan is ok - no free mins - but cheap line rental - i'm not sure if you can add a text, gprs, mms or wap access pack bundle to that talkplan - it's meant for card phones or high speed handsets - i'll check what u can have & get back on a 'talkplan bundle for you'

*sigh* OK.. update on that. It's not O2 at all! It's the fscking phone! Eventually Vodafone started doing the same thing (hangup after 10 secs), and a reboot of the phone fixed it. Does the same with O2. It seems that if the phone's been on too long, it just doesn't work with some ISPs. Anyone know some sort of modem init code to fix this? Rebooting every time I wanna use the net is just plain boring..
