My was at R9G007 and it was ok, but yesterday I changed to GW1 and updated to latest R9GA001. Now backlight only dims to lowest level but not completely turns off. Is it normal, everyones phone acts like this?

Phone settings are right; at backlight settings, Mobile set to Auto, and Power Save is ON(tried several different minute settings but not worked).

When connected to charger, backlight offs completely as I want.

Phone always is at lowest backlight and this eats my battery a bit, I wan't it to completely off as previous firmwares.

This has been an occasional problem with the P1 after the lastest update too. Its happened to me, i found that turning the phone off pulling the battery out for 30 secs then booting back up again seemed to solve the problem.

Thanks for the trick, but it works for only one boot time, means I should pull battery out everyday. There must be another way to overcome this but how? My battery is drained pretty fast.

To MoeOz > Thanks for reply, but the settings are all Auto, and I tried also different settings and default setting but no luck.

Which apps to you open? I found that opera mini seemed to do it on my p1, it would be fine till I started opera then the backlight would do what you describe.

try taking the battery out again and then starting your apps 1 by 1 until it won't turn off again.

It does that from clean start, I mean i don't open any program. But it can be from one of the installed program, a program can make a system file change or something, I'll try to backup and master reset and see if that happens again.

And this is the list of the programs that I installed, but not use everyone, just installed for try:
-AgileMessenger
-Asphalt2
-Asphalt 3 3d Street Rules
-BestCalc
-BestConverter
-Bowling
-Brain Juice
-Can't Stop Solitaires
-CruiseShipTycoon
-DocumentsToGo
-editor
-Gangstar - Crime City
-IM+
-Interstellar Flames 2
-Invasion
-KRally
-Lubisoft Automobile
-MassiveSnowboarding3D
-Metal Slug MI
-Mobipocket Reader
-MyFileMan
-Pdf+
-Pool
-rtmiUIQ
-ScummVM
-Sensible Sudoku 2
-Sil
-SlovoEd
-Syntrax
-The Fast and the Furious
-Warring Nations
-Worldmate

Best guess - there's some sort of override setting left over from a program you installed earlier on, but didn't reinstall on the new firmware.

(I had something similar to this on the first firmware update - and it didn't really go away until I wiped the mem- stick. I have no idea what exactly the file was, or what the program that caused the problem was - but if you have all the installation files for the programs you're using - you could try discreetly deleting some of the "import", "apps", and "resources" directories. They're used to override the (default) files on the rom- drive, so that's probably the kind of thing that could cause a problem from firmware to firmware, if the old files differ from the new ones. Then again...I could be talking out of my ass, and it's something else completely.)

I did an ultimate clean(Phone and Media Memory are formatted) update when upgrading to R9GA001, so it will be a program sourced problem. And I'm mistaken on charger thing, I tried it and it does the same, only dims but not completely off.

Anyway, just a moment ago, I did a master reset and the problem gone, now I formatted media and internal memory, run SEUS and overwrite the same firmware, in short I cleaned the phone to factory status. I didn't install any programs but changed the phone setting to my choices, no problem at backlight, so this problem is based on 3rd party programs.

Tomorrow I have a midterm and not worked yet, so I think, I'll continue this investigation tomorrow:D

I had this problem starting with M600i, P990i and now P1. And I don't even have to restart it, just to change the settings in the backlight section. I have to say it has a mind of its own because Ican't figure out yet how to set it.Mine also remains sometimes 5% lit and I can't shut it down 100%. I don't mind...I have to add.

I think I've found the problem. The problem is; you know, sometimes UIQ phones ask for installation of an uninstalled program at bootup of the phone. And if you cannot exit or apply for the installation process, it remains in the background but you cannot reach to them, and it causes to put lights at %10 position like a program remained open and its work remained half. It's solution is:

1. Connect you phone in mass storage mode (AKA Data Transfer), or use a memory card reader.
2. Go to \\private\\10202dce on the phone's folder, from you PC
3. You'll find the installer files (.sis) just delete them and you're done

Please try this and inform this topic if it works for you.

Actually, it's a bug. And I know it cuz it happened to me since M600, P990i and now P1 from time to time. You have to keep these settings:
control panel/device/backlight/handheld:auto/power save:1min and brightness tab: backlight handheld:normal.
These are the settings and your backlight should be off in 10 seconds. But when mine doesn't I have to restart it and it's fine afterwards.
PS: I keep my light at 50% so it won't eat much energy and still be very readable at night. More than that hurt my eyes in complete darkness. One more thing: if it's not off, you can go to brightness when dimmed and put it at 10%. If the light doesn't turn off, it'll only drain your battery around 2% in 12 hours - I know, i've tried it. And had some advantage too: i can always see what time is it and if I had any missed calls, I didn't mind it wsn't switching off completely.
