time to move up from my w800i, now what SE phone do I buy? |
pblocal Joined: Jan 02, 2006 Posts: 36 From: San Diego CA Americas Finest PM |
I am looking for another SE phone, time to move up. so what should I get?
I am looking for the usual features....
great phone, walkman, camera (I like the k850i's!) and a phone that will allow me to access the internet and check and send email (I currently have pop accounts at my home network I would like to access from the road)
Living in San Diego, my network (T-Mobile) only offers GPRS and Edge as their internet connections but my plan is month to month so I can switch over to any carrier served here no problem BUT it has to be a carrier that will work world wide because I travel to europe and south america alot.
Also, recently I had the iphone but I had problems with it so I turned it back in. I did, however, really like the wireless internet connectivity it offered when I walked into a hot spot. It would automatically connect to the fast connection and avoid the EDGE altogether. That would make traveling and getting on line much easier (and less expensive) so it would be nice if it had the wireless lan in it too. (I have found that the K850i does not have lan)
So, what phone would work best for my situation, over hear on the west coast in Americas Finest City, for a guy who travels alot?
Thanks in advance for any and all advice.
BTW - I have done a LOT of searching and reading on this but have gotten overwelmed by all the abbreviations and such so I could not figure it all out!

i think the w960 will suit you
It has:
8GB built -in memory
Walkman player 3.0
Wlan
3.2 MP camera with AF
business phone(which means it is built for e-mailing)
But it doesnt have Edge so that could be a problem |

that one is nice!
did a search on ebay over here and only ONE company selling it. They said it comes out tomorrow, 08/11/07 and they want $1100 US for it! Wow
I thought the K850 was high, then I looked at the N95 8 gb and now this.
is there any MORE expensive than this?
price is NOT an issue, BUT for that much $$$ for the 960, why did they only put a 3.2 MP camera in it and not the 5? and yes, this one does not have edge.
I do however like the N95 but it is not a SE
what is like that by SE?
thanks again......

1100 is too much for w960i, I would suggest u to go for n95 8gb
"Many reviews say that its best phone ever made"
It has won various wards including including
European Imaging and Sound Association
The Nokia N95 has been voted 'The European Media Phone of the Year 2007-2008' by the European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA). It's the third year in a row that a Nokia handset has won the award.
Another option instead of w960i for paying a hefty 1100$ would be , to add another 700$ and buy a sony vaio ux portable pc which has 4.5 inch screen, all features like touch screen, faster processor, wide screen Svga lcd video processor, memory stick support,Wlan, bluetooth
and buy a simple phone to make a call
So there is no way to move up from w800i in SE a way.

W960 won't be out will December.
So what you saw is either a hoax... or someone got his hands on a proto and is selling it. That's why the price is so high.
It shouldn't be that high when it's released. |

I'm in the same boat as you. If you use internet a lot and do not frequent hotspots I would definitely have EDGE on the phone as a feature.
I'm also in San Diego (that's right America's Finest City). Currently debating K850i, W910i, W960i and N81. |

what about a Motorola Q9?
With Ericsson and Nokia gone: we must keep their spirits alive and buy JOLLA or YOTA |

I broke down, or should I say, I am now broke!
Today, I called my buddy at his cell phone store, he called his wholesaler, who let me drive over and buy it directly from him and now I am the proud non sony erricson owner of a brand new
Nokia N95 8BG!
After reading all the specs, it seems to have EVERYTHING I wanted so I thought I would give it a try and if it does suck I can return it to the dealer who offers a 14 day return policy.
He charged me $725 out the door, phone and all accessories including a brand new Nokia 95 leather case and a brand new nokia car charger too. (he did not have any extra batteries, which I would like or the cordless keyboard either)
anyway, here are the specs. The phone is charging so I have not played with it all yet but I will later tonight and report back....

OMFG
It’s going to take me three weeks just to figure out how to use this thing!
I have been reading the manual for three hours, have a headache and feel like I have only learned a couple of things about this thing.
DAM, I never thought a cell phone could be so dam difficult.
Technology.....

@pblocal:
SE P1i would have been indeed a great choice had it has EDGE which is your country's connectivity standard. BUT it has WLAN! and it is Sony Ericsson
what you have now is still a great handset though. just go around the usual Nokia intricateness and in a few days time, you will be on a roll and would be enjoying the N95 to the max!
cheers! and welcome to Esato, mate!
