I believe someone else must have this problem. I do not want to mess with iTunes, or any other playlist maker. I simply want to listen to the album in its intended order. Why would Sony try to alphabetize? Would you read a book by the order of the first letter of each page? If I am listening to Floyd's, "Darkside of the Moon," the entire album is ruined. If I am listening to any album, it is shredded, as the player skips from track 17 to 1 to 5 to 4 to 88!! Why would they do this? I called Sony and they said the answer is simple: make a playlist. I just bought a 4gig memory card and want to dump 4,000 minutes of music onto it, and change this music frequently as suited to my taste. I am not an "audiophyle," rather, I just want to hear my albums like they were meant to, without being forced to sit at my desktop for hours everyday, slavishly organizing each track as if I had written them! Please! Help me have some faith in this thing. Otherwise its going up on eBay tomorrow. Thank you!

Best Wishes,
Frazzled/Dissapointed 810 Owner

Actually, I'm not very sure if there's a way around it. I personally do not use my W810 for music as I have a dedicated MP3 player. However, you can try putting all the songs from one album into one folder, before transferring to your phone/memory card. Then, from your walkman player, go to More->Sort->As created. That should work if you transfer your music in folders and not individually at random.

If anyone has tried it, do let us know if that method works. Thanks!

What is "PM"?

Actually, I have tried the suggestion, loading and then playing as created. What about loading another mp3 player on there? I tried doing this about a week ago, and I got the dreaded white screen of death. Currently, I am awaiting a warrantied replacement from ATT. Does anyone know of another mp3 player? This is ridiculous, no? Am I the only person annoyed by this? It's not fair to say, "you bought a phone w/an mp3 player, not an mp3 plaer w/a phone," b/c in all actuality, I DID buy an mp3 player w/a phone! That is why I paid for this expensive phone over another cheaper phone. So why on earth would they call this thing, "The Walkman," if it cannot be used as one (save for the radio, big whoop--many other non "Walkman" phones come with a radio). Also, the stupid thing throws my ringtones in there! Did the people designing this expect anyone to want to use it? I think not. As much as I dislike iTunes, I really really miss it right now... I miss my SLVR, which did not chew my albums and tell me how to listen to them. When would anyone ever ever want to listen to their music in alphabetical order? It's ridiculous! Thanks for your help, people. Hopefully I (we?) can figure this out, or if any of you want to buy this phone (and 4gb upgraded memory), it's yours.

Why are so many people on this forum "proud" not to use their phone for music? Why would you be proud owners of a phone specifically designed and advertised as a music phone?

Does any single person out there use their phone for music? Seems as if NOT one person does.

Why not?

Why spend the extra money for an extra device, and carry two, when you already have one? Isn't that wasteful? I am poor, and cannot afford an iPod, and even if I could, I would not want to have two mp3 players on my person, just to brag about the fact that I do not use one of them--ever. If the phone cannot do what I paid it to do, it is stealing my money and must be sold before I lose any more.

my 2-cents:

i have a W810i and i use it as a phone (obviously), an mp3 player (because its a Walkman!) and as a camera (since it has one with AF to boot!).

before i bought it, i already researched on its capabilities based on (it's) these three main features: what it can offer and what it could not, and also what it could possibly offer (after some FAR and XS++ tweaking, of course).

so far, i am satisfied and obviously delighted with it: it is a phone indeed (lol) with some useful PDA-like features, too; it could play my favorite mp3 tracks and it could take excellent photos! later on, if i will be confident and sure enough , i would like to try raiderski v6.6 camera driver and maybe try to improve the already excellent audio driver with one of those readily available right here in Esato. this damn reliable Walkman really rocks and i am loving everything in it

i understand orin's predicament although i am seeing the issue as something more of demanding something from the phone that is obviously absent in it in the first place. hopefully, some smart guys (calling all modder and tweakers out there!) could find a way to the solution to this issue, which i think would also be appreciated by more guys like orin (and me).

peace, orin!

@orinlouis, I've replied your private message. I'm sorry I couldn't do so earlier, I'm busy preparing for my exams. Anyway, I understand your predicament and it is a very valid concern. I don't know if you were referring to me when you said some of us here are proud to not be using our phones as mp3 players, but I don't remember saying anything that could give you that idea. I use a dedicated mp3 player because I've tried it prior to buying it and the sound quality was good. You said it's expensive to buy two devices when you can buy one that does both. I didn't want to have to keep investing in memory cards when I buy new phones, or have to use special headsets to listen to music on my phone. Nor did I want to have to worry about sound quality, it's hard enough trying to find a phone that one likes, and also meets one's requirements, is it not? Besides, I use my mp3 player quite often, and I surf on my phone with Opera Mini even more. If I were to do both on my phone, the battery would be dead before the day ended. And I must say, the W810 has a decent battery life. So you see, some of us do have reasons for getting a dedicated mp3 player. I could give even more reasons, but I think you get the idea. Of course, I know you feel that since you bought a phone that's hyped up for its walkman function, it should live up to your expectations. You're not wrong to think that way of course. Anyway, you can get around the problem of your ringtones being played by creating a playlist and adding only the folder that contains your music.
