The towers have been active for months so it seems convenient that they would lay the blame so close to XT's D-Day

That is a load of rubbish if anything its NZcomms's fault. Look at the uk, how many networks complain about interfearance there? Vodafone you suck, just for that, i'm not gonna top up this month

Those were my first thoughts

Exactly!
I don't see me being attracted back to Telecom again after I left in 2001 but it puts much needed competition back into the market. Still waiting for NZ Comms; there's supposed to be an announcement from them prior to May 13.

May 11th in fact. They will be releasing their brand name and some other unspecified info. The word is that they won't go live until Q3 at least.

Telecoms have said they are testing filters so that confirms that they have known about a problem for some time. Vodafone have reported them to the Ministry of Economic Development in the past and Telecom have had to prove they are operating within their specified frequencies. This is not a new issue but its new to the news media and has only become public since Vodafone sought a legal remedy. Clearly Telecom haven't fixed the issue to Vodafone's liking and Vodafone are'nt going to allow XT to go live until Telecom can operate it without negatively impacting Voda customers.

Telecom made comments about wanting Vodafone to contribute to the cost of the filters. Maybe the injunction will be dropped if Telecom cover the whole cost of the filters?
A remedy could be as simple as that.

This is of course speculation. Vodafone External Communications Manager Paul Brislen has promised a full explanation of what's going on after the court battle is all over. I'll post a link as soon as that happens.

Some very interesting claims about the quality of the Telecom XT network built by Alcatel-Lucent in the comments at the bottom of this article in the NBR.

Interesting, but somewhat annoying with a few people on there not having a clue what they're on about but acting as if they do. Sounds like there's some real battles about to happen between the two major telcos.

Loser in what way? In that Telecoms network is better? We don't know that yet, people are assuming all sorts of things based on images of space shuttles and fighter jets. That's called hype - you're not falling for it are you? Next thing we know you'll be getting an iPhone 3G!

And possibly in capacity too from what I read online.

Edit: Latest update -
NZ Comms settles interference spat with Telecom
Ericsson AU: Telecom and Vodafone's networks can get along

This is what I've been waiting for, acknowledgement from NZC that their actually is an interference problem. Funny that now, Telecom offer to pay for filters for NZC but not for Vodafone. That sounds malicious to me... more so than Tall Jan!

First salvo in the battle of the networks - XT speedtests by Computerworld

These speeds are consistent with 7.2Mbps HSPA technology same as Vodafone has. I have tested Vodafone's network at 2.6Mbps in Pukekohe and at off-peak times the same cellsite has delivered as much as 6.6Mbps.

Edit: A good article here on the history of NZ Communications (formerly Econet Wireless).

Thanks for the link carkitter. Interesting stuff!

At the beginning of the day, the gallery was near full, with lawyers and PRs for both camps filling a lot of seats; along with a lot of casual dressed onlookers who seemed curious about events; a trio of hardcore geeks who resembled The X-Files Lone Gunmen; and industry personalities including Tuanz Ernie Newman and Telecom chief executive Paul Reynolds.

Not you was it?

Telecom have backed down and agreed to fit filters for Vodafone's benefit as well as NZC.

Vodafone have agreed to drop the lawsuit.

Read about it here.
