Its not like me to be disliking this phone, I still love it and think its great when using it. However, my phone seems to have a really nasty problem when its left inactive in standby.

The phone will pretty much crash as though it is switched off and wont operate untill the battery is removed. Whats worse is that everytime this happens, the keypad and camera lights remain permantly switched on and drain the battery really fast.

Is this a common problem others are having? Should I return it for a new one or wait for a software/firmware update first to see if that fixes it?

You can try asking for a one-to-one exchange. New firmware my guess will be out only like in a month time?

Yea I've emailed T-mobile but cant call them over the phone untill monday.

If it is a widespread problem though that others are having, I wont be wanting a replacement untill a new batch is released. But if it just me I'll take a replacement.

I'm on insurance for the handset too, so i'll get a new one within 48 hours of declaring the phone faulty by phone call.

This has happened three times in 5 days now, once yesterday when I took my phone to work with me on a full charge and left it in my locker. On my lunch break the battery had been completely depleted into the red. It happened again overnight and earlier on in the week.

Man, my phone is now crashing after less then an hour in standby - Phone goes to sleep, Power button does nothing, all the lights stay switched on, battery power goes bye bye. It happened twice yesterday, and three times so far today. It only happens while its in standby though, its fine while im connected to the web.

Im getting a replacement on tuesday.

I remember the K750 has this exact same problem. It was fixed with a firmware update.

It's weird because I haven't heard anyone else mention it about the K850, though, whereas it was a widespread issue with the K750.

T-Mobile should replace it no problem for you. [addsig]

I got my replacement today, and immediately after opening the box realised that my first K850i had been dodgier then I thought.

The new one came with neat smaller boxes inside the main box, a large on holding the charger and other cables, and a smaller one with the manuals and software CD. My first one didnt have either of these boxes, instead everything was just loose inside the main box! Also, the battery in the first one was open and free to rattle around the whole box, whereas the new one was in a small plastic bag, enclosed inside the larger box with the cables.

The other fault - On my old K850i the lights were very uneven, the lighting on the right side of the D pad was brighter then that on the left. I realised today after using the new one that that was because the light on the left side of the keypad wasnt working on the old one! The new one is fine, nice and bright with even lighting on the keypad.

So I'm extremely glad I got it exchanged for what seems to be a fully working K850i, I just hope it doesnt develop any faults.

But I really dont know what was going on with the old one. It now seems that it was a second hand faulty phone, particularly since everything was already open and that the phone was faulty. I e-mailed and called T-mobile to report all this and they said that faulty handsets like this one are returned directly to the manufacturer and arent re-sold by them, also with it being such a new phone, they couldnt have sent me a second hand one, only what they recieved from sony ericsson.

So I think I conclude that Sony Ericsson recieve faulty second hand phones back for repairs, and instead of fixing them they redistribute them as brand new to the networks to sell again.

I've got the same problem, but with me this happened when I watch my photos in the media menu... Also the photos did not appear on my phone. With me it works fine after a total reset...

Another tip is to take it to a SE service centre and do a re-installation of the firmware. It helped me when my phone wouldn't restart.

Reinstalling the firmware might have worked, but I'm glad I got it exchanged since there was a non functional light on the front of it lol.

@Bhaav
My phone has now developed this fault, so it looks like I might need to get my exchanged, again.

Regarding the lights, it seems that an early batch of K850s were a bit strange with the keypad LEDs - the bottom right lit up last. On my new one, they light up evenly, row by row. I think this is what you're talking about. [addsig]

With the lights on my first one, it wasnt how they lit up, but one side of the keypad was brighted then the other, and my new one is the same brightness on both sides.
