SE W610i as an MP3player? |

Hi
I'm looking for a music phone to replace my mp3player. This device seems ideal. A few questions though:
1) Does the Sandisk M2 8gb work in the device? Will it slow the device down if there's 6gb of music on the card? A lot?
2) Is the sound quality similar to ipod, creative,...? Is the maximum volume loud enough? How does this phone compare to the w950i on this matter?
thanks!! |

1: it will, but expect lags and slowdowns to occur once the card is filled with files
2:W610 has good sound quality, but it doesn't outperform the sonic experience of a dedicated mp3 player
compared to W950 - music player, Walkman capabilities and sound quality W950 wins

I use my W610 as my MP3 player, and the sound quality is VERY GOOD in my opinion |

welcome to Esato, mate!
hey, the title of your thread, thus, the post itself, directly answers your query. unless of course, you are expecting more from the W610i.
razec is right, it would pale in comparison beside a dedicated mp3 player (say, the iPod) quality-wise.
W610i is primarily a phone, and next an mp3 player with Walkman capabilities. bear that mind and you wouldn't have any issue or problem at all

Thanks for the help!
I really wonder what kind of lags we're talking about with the 8gb M2 card. Will the phone still be useable, or wil I throw it out the window out of frustration?
I'm actually looking for the music phone with the best audio capabilities (quality, volume,...) which can store up to 8gb, has A2DP and can take a nice picture now and then. So I would think autofocus is required.
Not much choice then eh...
Are the w580i, w660i or w880i better choices then the w610i?
Should I wait for the w890i?

@sep:
Walkman phones are phones with Walkman features.
i have a W810i and in as far as my modest expectations of it are concerned, its definitely right on track.
just some of my thoughts about it, alright?
since i also love taking photos, i definitely considered the AF feature of the unit. some of my shots and those of the other W810 owners are in the Photos section of this site. try to see them and judge for yourself. btw, fyi, my cam drivers are generic (i'm trying to exhaust what it can deliver and so far it hasn't disappointed me yet).
the HPM-70 buds that came with it are just fine (i believe, the same goes with the W610). in fact, you will not even be needing the MegaBass feature once you manually tweak the equalizer settings to your liking/standard the noise-cancelling feature of the 70 is already enough to make it perform like it is already on MB mode. i only use MB if i happen to listen to some RnB tracks.
some people bought personal buds for their Walkman to suit their personal tastes that the original buds could not give them (try Senns). and i guess this is also true for dedicated mp3 players around (even the iPod with its generic buds). owners of such will surely opt to buy another set of "suitable" buds to pair their players with. why? that is to suit their personal taste, mate. experience is relative, no two are the same
are the other models better than the W610? well, that depends. but objectively, they are, features-wise, since they are far more newer models than the W610 (try to check the SE website to confirm these).
lags are normal when you fill up any storage space. just look at your PC's local hard drive, mate. the more space you have, the faster your PC goes. you fill it up to the hilt and it might even crash . its my sense of analogy. hope you know what i mean... the W950 has 4GB of built-in real estate though.
well, i hope, users of the models you have mentioned would try to post their own personal opinions here so that you could be "enlightened" more as for me, my W810i is giving me already the best of both worlds: Walkman features + and excellent camera with AF! the camera seems to be limited if it doesn't have AF.
cheers, mate!

yeah baby. Walkman rocks!
