Hi All,

I'm new to the symbian world after years of windows mobile.

I'm trying to connect to my works WPA2 secured network using my O2 P1i. Only problem is... I don't have the WPA2 option in my settings. When in comes to assigning security I get: None, WEP, Shared WEP, Dynamic WEP, WPA Personal and WPA Enterprise.

I've read on numerous sites that this phone has WPA2 functionality and many people on forums are talking about using it... so where can I find it? I've used the Sony Upgrade program to update my phone expecting this to fix my problem but no WLAN changes have been seen.

Can anyone confirm they actually get the WPA and WPA2 options in there security settings please? Or better still - help me solve my annoying problem!

On my old windows mobile I am able to connect to my office network once I use the WPA2 option - so I definitely know its a WPA2 issue.

Cheers,
MJ

I was able to connect to my old WPA2-PSK network with my P990. I just chose the appropriate WPA Personal and then selected AES as encryption. Worked fine. (I've got another access point now, and that one lacks WPA2 support.)

Hasn't worked.

On my Vario I needed to use the TKIP option to connect too.

Thanks for your input though.

Mm. I can confirm wpa2 works, at least if it's a temporal key that's being used. And I'm sure it works to select wpa and writing in the passphrase, if you know all the settings. But you can just search for the network Id and then choose "connect". That will launch the connection wizard and you should just be prompted for a password and so on, and the settings should be autodetected.

When I scan and then attempt to connect the passphrase title will be "WEP". I already know this is not the case so I go through the process of adding the network manually - this way I can be sure I am using the desired security option.

hm. Maybe the p1 supports wpa authentication, and not the encryption under some wpa2 implementations? I mean, technically wpa2 is just wpa authentication with different encryption (with the 802.11i standard), so it's possible they've just implemented it with different names, or something. And then the authentication should probably be set to wpa, which is sort of technically correct.

...anyway. So you can't connect at all?

My understanding is that the P1 does support WPA2 but has problems with plain WPA. My home wireless router supports both at once, and I had to disable plain WPA and enable WPA2 only, to get the phone to connect. Once I'd configured the router like that, the phones auto-detect worked.

(I had WEP working too, at one point, and no security at all.)
