Is there software available that can scanned items at all? For example is a scanned some notes that someone had written would it be possible change it from written to typed and change the fonts and colours etc.
So when you write lecture notes you wouldn't have to type them up, or is this the same thing Paul is after?

yes (4 page essays are a pain to type up)

OCR tends to only work on printed text.
In my experiance it's pretty bad on handwriting but if you ever need to scan a page from a book into Word, then OCR is what you need.

Iris OCR is available for mac.
It's payware though and as arien says, it doesn't work very well unless your handwriting looks like times new roman.

TBH, you have to check it all anyway..... so why not just write it up - you'll learn waht youre copying then too
i personally would never trust any software to do that because if it makes a mistake.... your in trwble!!!!!!
has anyone seen one of these magic air pens tho? my GF wants one as shes a creative writer and it basically means you whip the pen out... write in thin air and everythings stored and sent to your pc..... any ideas? or info regarding this technology.... i figured the subject was simular so there was no need for a WHOLE new thread - if you feel i should start one - just say
