i'm using t-mobile here in the states and i was wondering if there is a way to use my laptop(bluetooth, macosx) to connect to my local isp and only get charged for minutes? i have unlimited weekends so this would be a very good thing. i don't mind the slow(er) speed.

right now all i do is i have a bluetooth script that allows me to dial my isp using ppp, but for anyone who has t-mobile, is that just charging me minutes? or data too?

Be careful. T-mobile charges data when using your cell phone to dial your ISP. I thought the same thing until I saw my bill. I called T-mobile and they explained to me the fax and data calls are not charged to your minutes. They charge you for every bit sent. The only way is to sign up for one of their Internet plans; not T-Zone. I'm not the expert on this subject, but thats what I know so far.

I've used my phone numerous times to call into my ISP from my Sony Clie. I just set up the dial-up account on the Clie and used the phone as a modem. I never got charged for anything but the actual minutes used. So you can use the phone as a modem as long as you want, it will not do anything but eat up your minutes. and since weekends are free it won't eat up anything at all. you connection will only be 9.6Kbit/sec but if that doesn't bother you, surf all you want, no charges there!

You can also sign up for GPRS and use a higher speed data connection, that one will charge per bytes and it's called T-mobile Internet. For $10 you can buy 2MB for a month. It's pretty pricey I think.

So I think the guy above got it wrong big time, there is no charge on top of the minute usage for data calls, T-mobile doesn't care what you use your minutes for.
That's my story and I'm stickin' to it!
