I've been comparing some photos taken with 3 wildly different cameras. The K850, my old Samsung D900, and a Canon 350D as a reference.

What I have discovered is that the K850 has a very aggressive noise reduction algorithm, and if you introduce any camera shake or blur from a greasy lens cover, then the noise reduction goes wild and you get a very nasty photo.

I have disabled flash in all photos:

Here's the reference photo from the 350D (1/2s F4):

And the K850 hand held, with a slightly greasy lens:
(1/4s F2.8)

But now clean the lens, and hold it against a door:
(1/5s F2.8)

And for good measure, the D900:

Zooming in 1:1 reveals the horror:

Outside, things are better with the higher shutter speed.

Reference (350D):

K850:

D900:

1:1 again:

Nice comparison pictures mate: imho K850 images are okay, they're sharp enough and has natural colors and is really near to canon's colors. given the fact that K850 has a mobile CMOS sensor i'm sure everyone understands why the noise is present. but all in all K850 camera is very good for it's class - a mobile camera

Nice comparisom, confirms my feelings about the D900 ... but very unfair to compare the K850i with a 8 mpix DSLR !!! Its a totally different league!

I think the K850i examples I have seen are extreemly good ... remember its a phone with a camera bolted on ... Noise will always be an issue with small senor pocket cams, the sensors on an SLR are much larger - hence less noise and workable to far higher ISO's etc etc

that's why he said that the DSLR was for reference since canon cameras especially DSLRs have the most accurate colors of all cameras he wanted to imply how was k850's dynamic range, color accuracy and sharpness

Imagine how good work has done to K850i then! But before this, think that it's been compared with a DSLR camera with 8 megapixels resolution...So,we must say that a great job has been done, don't you agree?

Yes, but you must not hand-hold the camera. A tripod or other solid object is required to get the results above, or else you are left with the nasty noisy picture.

Nice comparison, it's good to have a recognised standard (the 350D) to set against. it lets you see the ability of the K850 to reproduce natural colours.

Great work

Sssuming it still daylight when I get home, I'm going to take some comparision shots (outside) with my old K800 and new K850, at the moment I am most un-impressed by the k850 photo quality (in full auto) but need a direct comparison before I can be sure (may have my rose-tinted specticles on with the k800 ).

Watch this space.

I tried som quick photographing this afternoon and i accidently erased half of them:) (not used to the buttons yet)
Here's my (beginners)question: If i find my pics alittle too bright can i affect that by turning the ISO settings down to a lower figure and thus get a little more darker pic?

Hi apotts,
Thank you for taking the time to do the test shots, much appreciated!

Out of interest have you tried an indoor hand held test with the K850i image stabilizer switched on for a comparison?

@appots

-Good comparisation.
What settings did you use with the k850i, auto??

Now I am impressed!
Incredible good indoor pics for a phone. First time I saw the pics I misunderstood it and thought that the Clean lens photo by the k850 was the one done by the canon, and the dark and ugly one done by the k850i

Was very disappointed for some time there xD
