I'd like to know, too. I've been wondering if at least painting the silver plastic frame on the back might be an idea.. Think it'll come off without upsetting the little gnomes in the circuitry?

I have bought a replacement housing. After I got it I changed my mind about taking it apart.
The housing parts are fixed by lots of very tiny and very tight fitting snap connectors.
It was very difficult seperating even the empty housing parts. To make things worse some parts of the housing are made of very thin and fragile plastic, wich are very likely to bend or break.
Be very, very careful.

@Nipsen:
I was thinking about painting as well. Some housing parts have glued on pieces, like camera glass, speaker grill etc. On the backside the silver housing, black housing around the camera and the circular camera piece are all glued togerther, wich makes painting very difficult. Also on the frontside it is impossible to seperate the aluminum cover from the black plastic underneath (keyboard frame, display frame).

regards,
peter

..really, glued stuck? lol.

I just saw these four- five screws that seemed to keep the plastic frame on the back in place, so I thought maybe that one was possible to take off, while leaving the rest? ..I mean, you're not saying the shiny thing over the speaker is glued to the exterior..?

Yes it is glued on. But this part is easy to remove and glue on again after painting. In this case it seems to be just something like double sided adhesive tape. Seperating the black part of the housing from the silver part of the housing will be much more difficult. Rather impossible without breaking.

be very careful... SE's plastic parts maybe ABS but still ABS is still not steel or something like that. it could easily be dented and thus, damaged, if you're not careful enough. goodluck!

post some photos, please... thanks!

Hm. I tried taking off the frame on the back. But it's apparently stuck in something else except the visible screws. Any ideas?

Btw, anyone know what that thing under the plastic cap on the left above the camera is?

External antenna connector, for a P1 specific car kit, the holder then connects a external antenna that improves reception.

*thinking out loud* i wonder if you could use this connection to improve WLAN range??

AAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHH. SE wants to charge $200 USD to change the housing on my phone, Thats half of what i paid to get the P1i. I can buy an oem housing for $40 USD, i just need to get a guide to do it, it wouldnt be the whole housing just the metal parts.

I've taken lots of phones apart. The p1 is just a walk through the park. Couple of screws and some clips, that's it. I'm waiting for some quality housings in a special color.
