Ok. I have had this phone for probably about 6 weeks. I really do like it, but have to say that the camera is a disappointment.

Inside pics seem to look grainy sometimes and using the flash makes some pictures look washed out.

What is that red light that comes on just before the picture is taken? Is it the focus?

Can't really say that the camera is any better than my W810i.

Outside pics seem to be better.

Any thoughts on this?

Try changing the camera driver to another one which will suit your needs more . I think the K800/810 are grest CyberShot phones and they take excellent pictures (thogh my one is modded camera driver)

Can you point me in the right direction? Also, will I run the risk of ending up with a dead phone, don't really want to mess it up, as it's under warranty still.

Have you updated your phone via SEUS?
IMO K810 takes great pics - even better than K800 does.
And yes, that red light is for the autofocus (Duh, what else could it be for!?)

Yes, have just tried to do that and it told me my phone has the latest software.

Two pics of my cat I have just taken using bestpic mode.

Pictures look at bit out of focus to me.

i must say the pics look a lil out of focus, but i think it's because of you. i bet you've seen plankgatan's pics. he takes awesome pics and you know it. is your camera button ok? i say this because it may cause that you take pics Out Of Focus(OOF).

Yes as mentioned by 'Tranced' , there might be a problem with your camera button , and thats why you see the Red Light ...
I also see the red light sometimes in my K810 , its for focus i think ...
Also k810 takes great pictures indeed , and they really are better than W810 ! ...
Im proud of my K810 ...

It doesn't look like macro mode. Look at the carpet in the shadow in front of the cat. Looks fairly sharp to me. The camera failed to focus on the cat and picked the carpet instead.

i think there are two major usage of that infra red light kinda thing..

i dont know if i heard this with masseur or max_wedge... just cant point.

but firstly, that red coming out is also a support to reduce red-eye, like by lighting on the subject (of course a person), the pupil dilates then the xenon flash fires off... having the subject's eye expose less on the light bulb.... eerrr

then the next is, for focusing, you are right! especially in low light OR completely dark environment! the red light fires off to measure/gauge the length or focal points to be used etc etc... after that didnt you notice, the cam focuses even if you cant either see the subject on the viewfinder clearly.

@abbafan
dont use BestPic if you are not in a completely lit environment... hence outdoors!

if you are inside a room/house and you are close to your subject, try portrait mode, if the light is low then twilight portrait.

and just like plankgatan said, never use auto, it doesnt help.
try playing around with the other functions.. its fun learning things that way...

cheerio!

remember, plankgatan shots are taken with stock drivers.... so think how good your K810 could be if you would only learn to use the lights around you.

enjoy peeps!

Absolutely! K810 is just a piece of 'machine'. The most important factor is 'the man behind the machine'!

i have realy no clue how much better some cam driver get ? (i have allways use stock driver....so how much better pic-quality do i get with modded camdriver ?

i allways uppdate my by my local phone store....he DPY flash there.....(a better way to uppdate your phone....you get a clean install directley on the memory)...maybe you should try that, (maybe you have some software issues (bugs) who makes your images little bad.

also remember that the cat-pics are indoor pics, and they are allways hard to shoot.

well not that much to tell you the truth...

just a lil bit of this and that.... like sharpness and color. tho its hard to keep a good balance of both. also some adjust ISO and stuff like that... which do help a bit.

i gues the mod drivers are aid to those who nearly want to get good shots without merely trying hard... hence, like us beginners...

tho i guess the stock drivers suffice your everyday needs, just make sure you know where and when to shoot good shots. aite?!

if only we could convert plankgatan's creativity into a camdriver and download it to our phones... then we'll all be happy campers...

I don't know what phone store here would flash it. Sorry, but what is DPY?

I guess I need to practice a lot more. I have a dedicated digicam too, so any event I need to ensure good pics, then I always take that.
