An ordinary family’s bruising encounter with fame...
Thanks to a lucrative contract with Second Skin, Ashley Webb is fast becoming a household name. Her face is plastered nationwide, people do double-takes in the street, she spends school break times signing autographs and Nana Howard is well onto her third scrapbook of press cuttings.
Following the return of Tiggsy’s cancer – and the worst possible prognosis – an uneasy peace has descended on the Webb clan, with Pauline more determined than ever to lift everyone's spirits. With Tiggsy’s illness her new benchmark, Pauline’s constantly telling her family to count their blessings and lighten up. Thus the Big C which is slowly claiming their best mate, becomes a useful means of papering over the cracks that threaten her own fragile family.
Pillar of the local community, Pauline is now talent scout-cum-school governor-cum charity fundraiser- cum not-so-supermum-cum rubbish wife. The tentacles of vicarious fame now have the one-time dinner lady firmly in its clutches. Nothing and nobody is going to stop her from ‘living the dream’, and that includes buying the family a dream home. She anticipates a battle royal with Terry, but he’s surprisingly up for it – just so long as they stay in Runcorn and he can drink in the Mersey.
Their new build is an idyllic backdrop to their ever rocky marriage, with a dream kitchen, triple garage, gravel driveway and a huge garden. They’ve never been unhappier.
Bankrolled by Ashley (courtesy of her new modelling contracts) the title deeds are in her name, and that age-old parental reprimand of ‘not while you’re under my roof’ is turned on its head. In fact, Ashley is beginning to tire of the 'five to nine' - if you’ve seen one six-star hotel you’ve seen them all. Much as she loves the adrenaline of the catwalk and swanning into Hollyoaks parties - staying sober on mineral water while your schoolmates get plastered is starting to pall. Ashley's beginning to feel like a walking cashpoint until she meets that someone special... but soon finds out that even her boyfriends are subject to agent approval.
